Got my permanent residency last week, best Christmas gift I could ask for. Besides that my gf and I agreed we'd prefer spend less on each other this Christmas and put the money toward a nice vacation in the first quarter of 2015. Also my family will be coming to visit and meet the gf's family for the first time....really looking forward to the Holiday Season...family time ftw.

Talk about your left hand. I think last week at work we were discussing gf and somehow I said "The best gf is your left hand" out loud. Half of the office heard it lol.

So I'm looking at getting my dad something different this year and I figure I would go with tools!

I'm looking at getting him a screwdriver + socket/drive tool sets from Nepros
Plier sets from Knipex or Stahlwille
and a power tool set from Snap-On

the downside is i don't really know know tools ye know? so i've got some questions and hopefully you guys can help out

1st) can anyone recommend better brands other than the ones i'm hoping to go with?

2nd) 1/4" 3/8" or 1/2" for the socket/drive set? (i was leaning on 1/2" but keep getting suggested 3/8")

3rd) where can I find Snap-On & Stahlwille tools locally? (i found distributors but no stores ???)

4) suggestions for any other gifts?

Parents are flying in/out so ski day passes for them + my brother, got a Legend of Zelda-style Ocarina for le gf's sister, Cards Against Humanity for her brother, a blender for her mom and a dashcam for her dad (split the costs with the siblings for the last two).

Power tools I would recommend Milwaukee fuel series mix and match at summit or kms.
Hand tools if it's just around the garage any of the Canadian tire Mastercraft maximum sets.
pliers channellocks

underscore 12-05-2014 09:16 PM

Stylin Red if he doesn't have vicegrips yet those are always good to have around.

StylinRed 12-05-2014 09:24 PM

well he's got a garage full of tools strewn about but i think it's been at least 20+ years that i've seen him add new tools

i guess that's a testament to the quality of them but i thought he might appreciate new tools...he might not though lol

I need some help finding something for my boyfriend, $50-100 (that's the limit we set for each other). He want something useful. He doesn't have a lot of interests, but he likes cooking, cats (doesn't have one though), leather things like bags, shoes, wallets I expect. He goes to SFU. I'm thinking of either 1 thing or several, such as a tumbler (I want to engrave one but don't know how), something for his kitchen maybe a nice knife, a backpack, or something tech related. All suggestions appreciated!

StylinRed 12-05-2014 09:58 PM

adopt a cat? or two? :)

He can't handle a cat he says lol

You can engrave things yourself without too much difficulty, or you can get it done at places that specialize in that stuff.
