$500 of Esso Gas Cards for $450

It's a sizable investment, but it's something you're going to need to buy anyway...

http://www.shop.ca/c/esso-500-gift-c...undle-24636227

Use code "ESSO50" to get the $50 off. Code is valid until midnight PST.

So basically it's 10% off gas, so if the price is $1.20/L, you're actually paying $1.08L.

Can't double up using cash back sites... others have tried.

If you have a targeted promo of $40 off $99 with PayPal, that will apply though.

The 5% PayPal cash back MIGHT not apply for this order. I think the fine print does say not valid for gift card purchases. Even if it does, you have to make one other transaction with PayPal first though, and it's the second transaction onwards that starts getting the rebate.

I bought some cheap 99¢ item on eBay first before buying the gift cards, just in case PayPal does give the 5% back.

Too bad the Great Canadian Rebates referal doesn't work for gas cards
SHOP.CA Coupon Codes 2014 & Cash Back Rebates

No cash back rebates when using promo/coupon codes

No cash back rebates on Gas Cards, Gift Cards, Gift Certificates or any eGift Card purchases .
No cash back rebates on Video Game Consoles, Video Games, Video Game Accessories, Travel or Music download purchases.

It may be possible Shop.ca will report a rebate on Gas cards. However, they will reverse it later in the month.

Yeah, I need to order some cheap items anyways. Did you have to activate the paypal cashback with your email or did you just get the email? I got the email but I recall having to click on things and enter an email to activate it for previous promo's.

I just clicked the link in the email... I think that activates it. Don't think you have to actually sign up this time... don't take my word for it though.

I've heard this ever since I could remember. I've always wondered if it was true or not but i never fill up from Esso. I've also noticed that a quite a few Essos feel outdated and have tiny convenience stores.

I work in the industry and its known that the fuel they have is beyond horrible. It's the worst hands down compared to Chevron and Shell

how BAD is it? I wonder

A colleague of mine used to work in a govn't lab in HK testing fuel. General public over here say Sinopec and PetroChina have the worst gas, he explains they are not the best, but the difference is very little that won't hurt your car performance. Not sure in Canada, but I would like know as well.

I can't find any objective evidence about this. I have also heard ESSO isn't as good.

I did find this though..

ESSO is Top Tier certified.
Top Tier Gasoline

Here is a youtube video about what top tier is

Costco, Husky, and Superstore is not on the list. Based on this, ESSO gas seems like it plays in the same league as Chevron or Shell

"I work in the industry" is far from convincing. Where's the data? And even if it is somehow worse than its peers, I highly doubt the slight difference would make any impact on cars.

They weren't one of the top tier gasoline retailers a few years ago. Maybe they've changed but I also never fill up at Esso.

Those who placed orders, make sure you have an actual shop.ca order confirmation, not just a PayPal payment confirmation. Apparently their website was really screwed up earlier and tons of people got their money taken, but the order was not actually created. You can just send support an email and they will reverse those charges... but you might need to create your order again.

I placed mine again about 30 minutes ago and everything went through properly this time.

I've been filling up at ESSO for years, because I collect aeroplan with them.

I've always considered them to be one of the big gas station brands along with Chevron, Shell, and Petro-Canada.

I always fill at ESSO because of aeroplan. but 450 is quite a sum to pay because I don't fill that often enough I think...

Unless these cards expire, you will fill up $500 worth of gas within your life time... lol. (more like 6 months~ if you drive every day)

On that note, you also get 450 Aeroplan points when you buy this on shop.ca

I have no affiliations with the industry at all, but from my own personal experience, my old VW 1.8T didn't like Esso gas nearly as much as Chevron, Shell, and Sunoco. The engine just seems lazier and doesn't want to pull as hard.

Purely anecdotal, of course. But that is definitely what it felt like on repeated occasions.

You're lucky... as mentioned in my first post, the deal was only supposed to last until 11:59pm last night... but I think probably because of the problems shop.ca had taking orders, they extended it for another day, or until supplies last, whichever comes first...
