Turbo "experts" chime in please, T3/T4 turbo options
Hello!
I recently picked up a 2.4 Turbo for my 1984 Dodge Rampage and now I'm going to size the turbo I need
Background:
1. The Dodge Rampage is about 2,200 lbs. I plan to drive the cruck mostly for picking up Craigslist antiques and other furniture for restoring and selling, with part time duty for picking up other engines for 5.0/misc engine swaps. This will be mostly a work truck with a part-time track slut duty.
2. The engine will be backed by a 3 speed auto with fairly tall gearing.
3. I'm going to aim for good gas mileage and green-rod it.
Questions:
1. I want to aim for a safe level of power on the stock block. This should be around 400 whp from what I've read. Is it generally safer to run higher RPM, more peaky power from a big turbo, or a fatter torque curve at lower RPM?
2. On your last turbocharged vehicle, did you prefer a laggy-but-powerful turbo or a quick-spooling less powerful turbo?
3. Do you get better mileage on a laggier turbo that you tend to shift before it enters boost, or can you get better mileage on a quick-spooling turbo by utilizing the lower RPM power available?

I'm trying to pick a turbo for my 1984 2,200 lbs Doge Rampage that will be able to put out big horsepower at the track while getting the best possible gas mileage and drivability around town, looking for suggestions. I don't want to hit boost and catapult a desk I'm hauling into the windshield of the car behind me!

Looks like a good deal but I believe I may want a turbo that is capable of 500-600 so I don't have to upgrade for serious track duty.)
A "500-600hp" turbo is going to be retarded to drive around town. On an engine that size you're going to have the rev the piss out of it in order to get the turbo to light.
Also, generally speaking 400hp isn't really a safe number as i'm assuming the stock motor is <200 stock. What motor are we talking about here?

Sorry I thought more people were aware of the capabilities of the 2.4 turbo
Dumbfuck i'm sure there's more than one "2.4l turbo" engine ever made, perhaps letting people know what car it came out of first would of been helpful...
I used a similar turbo on both a B18C and D16Z6 turbo.
It's a tad laggy on the smaller motors, but I was revving to 8k-8500. I took mine up to around 400, and it still had plenty more in it. For the street I'm sure you could get away with a 50trim and still make more than enough power.
Dude you live in Vancouver no point in getting a turbo you will be stuck in traffic all day.
Driving up Main Street is like driving on 4th between Burrard and MacDonald now. Basically you have to zig zag between everyone making left hand turns on every block while right turners and people either parking or pulling out fuck the right lane!!!
Main street from Cordova to 33rd is basically fucked 16 hours of the day
