ACURAs savior - the TLX.....RECALLED - transmission problem

2015 Acura TLX Under Stop Sale Over Transmission Issue » AutoGuide.com News

The 2015 Acura TLX is already running into some issues with its nine-speed transmission. (V6 model only)

The Japanese automaker has told its dealers to stop selling the 2015 TLX sedan and has informed the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) of a recall notice that will affect approximately 9,500 units of the TLX equipped with a V6 engine. The issue involves the transmission indicator displaying “Park” without the transmission actually engaging park. According to Acura, during manufacturing of the nine-speed transmission, there was a possibility that contamination could cause the parking pawl not to engage or the park rod could have been damaged during assembly. As a result, the park rod could dislodge, preventing the transmission from shifting into the Park position.

Increasing the risk of a crash, the TLX’s shift indicator will display “Park” even though the Park Lock is not engaged, which will allow the vehicle to roll away. NHTSA has not yet confirmed the recall but Acura’s notice to the agency is the first step in the formal recall process.

this is quite the fuck up from Acura, something like this should have been detected during testing, no?

Tr1ll 12-08-2014 06:57 PM

Well that didn't take long..

MindBomber 12-08-2014 07:05 PM

haha, oh Honda/Acura automatic transmissions...

bcrdukes 12-08-2014 07:09 PM

Transmission problems on a Honda/Acura V6? This is no surprise but a hidden feature.

Euro7r 12-08-2014 07:09 PM

They should just stick to traditional 5/6 speed transmission. Don't even what is the stupid point in having those 8/9 speed shit.

noclue 12-08-2014 07:10 PM

I bought one recently....

I thought the V6 was a waste of money, looks like I lucked out with the 4-cylinder!

LP700-4 12-08-2014 07:16 PM

Hey at least they're admitting fault and fixing it I guess. Still have yet to drive one, waiting for a Type-S version to come out :accepted:

TOPEC 12-08-2014 07:23 PM

thats y u always always set the parking brakes kids

Tone Loc 12-08-2014 07:31 PM

Personally, I don't see what the big deal is... sure, it's unsafe and yeah it sucks for a brand-new car, don't get me wrong. But at least Acura is confessing to it and issuing a stop-sale/recall on their own volition instead of covering it up and straight up lying to their consumers like many other car companies often do.

Everyone that has a auto v6 Honda / Acura before already knows of the problems ahead. We are not surprised. Just glad they caught on early this time lol

CP.AR 12-08-2014 07:44 PM

I was always taught to set the park brake as a backup... do people not do that?

Qmx323 12-08-2014 08:02 PM

lol no, people use both

why would they teach other wise, its there for a reason

dlo 12-08-2014 08:07 PM

not too surprised about their tranny issues.. :lol

donjalapeno 12-08-2014 08:08 PM

ugh i saw a black TLX the other day with blacked out trim :sweetjesus:

Ludepower 12-08-2014 08:21 PM

Honda are notorious for their transmission problems.
It's AWESOME paying $3000 for a tranny repair...conveniently after when the 4 year warranty expires. SMH.

StylinRed 12-08-2014 09:37 PM

well luckily they caught it when the number of units affected is only 9,500
(also ouch they've only shipped 9,500?)

Acura has possibly the worst marketing ever.

Almost every person I know who drives an Automatic, does not use the E-brake. They just put it in park and walk away.. And I laugh and tell them "the day your car rolls away, I'm laughing at you and not helping." :fuckthatshit:

I remember when the third generation TL came out and everyone was like DAMN wtf is that then the type S shortly after with the quad exhaust....this was the last good looking car acura has made.

this ^ plus people that never use their park brake, if someone else gets into the car and uses it 80% of the time in older cars the e brake cable sticks and it won't release.

I had to replace a few cables in my time in the shop and they all had the same story.

Tr1ll 12-09-2014 10:10 AM

I always thought everyone put their e brake on after they park in an automatic because I do it myself. Then again I don't sit in other people's cars that often..
