"Slow Down, Move Over" Law extends to more official vehicles in 2015.
As of January 1st, we gotta slow down, change lanes on a multi lane road for even more "official" vehicles besides police, fire department, and ambulance.
-from the article: January 1, 2015, the new amended law will be simplified by encompassing any vehicle that flashes a red, blue or yellow amber light – including road maintenance workers, land surveyors, animal control and garbage collectors.
If you do not slow down and pull over for these vehicles, there's a huge fine for you ($173) and three point penalty on your driving record. http://www.vancitybuzz.com/2014/12/s...vehicles-2015/
Is this change in the law too extreme?
I should start putting an amber light on my ride.

It's for those emergency vehicles who are already stopped on the road, to allow them the safe distance to do their work. Slow down, Move Over. It's common sense. Read the article again.

quick question for those of you who know what you're talking about. these new changes mean that if you drive by an officer using his radar gun at the side of the road, you not only have to be below the speed limit but also have to slow down to 70/40 depending on the speed limit of the road. Is this a correct assumption?

No. This law is saying that if you drive pass an officer who has ALREADY pulled someone over (or any emergency vehicle with their lights flashing, parked on the side of the road), you must slow down to below the speed limit, and change lanes if its a multi-laned road.

From the article:

The new regulatory amendment will be simplified so that it includes all vehicles displaying a flashing, red, blue or yellow light.
As xXSupa says, that applies to police, firetrucks, ambulances, tow trucks, or maintenance trucks, but ONLY when they have their warning lights flashing. A tow truck sitting there on a lunch break doesn't count. A cop with his laser doesn't count, unless his red and blues are on.

only a multi lane highway it might be hard to slow down to 70 kph and then also merge into the fast lane where cars are going 100+. wouldnt it make more sense for the law to be slow down and/or move over?

I believe if you read the actual law, it states that you only have to move over IF it's safe to do so.
