Yeah I checked the official rules PDF. "Grand Prize" was "middle seat", as chosen by votes on the site, and broadcast first. "First Place" was chosen by Doritos out of the remaining commercials (ie. it wasn't necessarily second place in voting).

So it looks like RS had no influence on the winner at all :okay:

The middle seat guys must have had one hell of a voting campaign, because I thought flying pigs did a great job of promotion themselves.

Far better than some of the other commercials. That Mercedes one annoyed me, the Budweiser was nothing more than a feels grab and the winning Doritos commercial was something I'd expect as a 2nd year film project.

I couldn't find which the info in the rules on which will be shown first or second in in the superbowl. OP said "The top 2 ads will be played during the Super Bowl, and the runner-up will play first, and that's how we'll know who won."
