Salt Spring Island Coffee is decent as well.

I like Umbria ... I think it's Italian.

I really like this stuff and want to see what happens when I put it through an espresso machine lol.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions! Unfortunately none of Costco or any grocery store I checked carried this stuff in whole-bean format.

So I gave in and finally got some from Amazon at an eye-watering $11 / 300g:

Really not bad! I made lattes out of this, and the flavors came through a lot more vividly than drip via the drivethru window.

Interesting as an experiment, but absolutely not worth what I paid, obviously.

Got some of their espresso beans too, while I was at it:

Yeah wow, this stuff was obnoxious. As soon as the bag opened I got a musty whiff of cat pee. It's just glistening with oil, and black as char. Tastes like it smells. Like drinking the sludge off the bottom of the barbecue. 1000% not recommended.

This is my usual stuff I'm comparing to as a baseline, which I've seen go as low as $13 / 1000g on sale at Costco:

It's like drinking chocolate milk lol. Can't beat this bargain though!

Bra come on.. you can do better than that garbage lol

GLOW 05-01-2025 09:19 AM

nothing beats sharing cheap deals on coffee beans...

i'm trying to find a good cheap decaf option but also flavoured, i like the smell once i grind it up.

most options are regular flavoured coffee beans or just regular decaf beans.

EvoFire 05-01-2025 10:58 PM

I've been sustaining on Japanese convenience store coffee.

The flavour is actually not bad, but the kick is horrid. I would be on my third of the day and it doesn't do anything.

There are some decent instant out there.

I got some instant from Colombia when I was touring there for friends who didn't have any coffee equipments, and while they are not going to compare to a properly grind espresso or pourover, they aren't all the bad really. I'd put some of them above some garbage beans you get from Costco or supermarket in general. Yes, better than using those garbage beans using my Lagom P100+Slayer setup. High-end equipments just remove many variables during the process. But if the beans are garbage, it's not going to make it any better.

OTOH, if you use proper beans, and even shitty process like making them into instant, they'd retain enough flavor profile to beat garbage beans.

Instant=/=bad coffee. There are decent products out there, it's just we rarely see them in our stores as we treat instant of a convenient item more than anything. Whereas in places like Colombia where good quality coffee is easy to come by and people take coffee very seriously, you can get decent quality instants.

BTW, I'm saving up/ordering my next machine. I tried a shot about 2months ago from a coffee afficcionado in the US and I just want to upgrade. If everything works out as I planned, I should have it as a x'mas gift to myself.

SkinnyPupp 05-03-2025 09:59 PM

Prices of grocery story coffee (UCC) has gone up so much, it is now only $10 HKD more to buy fresh roasted coffee. The quality will be much better of course, but it's kind of wasted on iced coffee. Like it'll be maybe 30-50% better, whereas with hot brewed coffee it would be 200-300% better.

As for the reason, I think cold coffee kind of 'flattens' the flavours, so really good beans taste really good, but you don't get the full potential of them in iced form. So cheap but decent grocery store coffee is fine during the summer months.

I need to find a way to get decent but cheaper beans for ice coffee over the summer or I'll go broke LUL Until then, I guess I'll drink less coffee ResidentSleeper

RabidRat 05-04-2025 05:34 AM

Ok or, we start roasting our own beans!

Coffee is like cigarettes, if all you’re in it for is the effect and you’ll drink/smoks the cheapest option available, I feel bad for ya lol

Razor Ramon HG 05-05-2025 09:15 PM

Anyone try those hazelnut vanilla beans from Costco?

Tempted to try it since it's only $15 and the bags smelled good, lol

Ok for cold brew, no no for anything else imo.

Infused coffee beans are not something I personally enjoy. But it’s got its places.

I just drank a little instant coffee and slammed it down so I can code my money-making script alllllllll night.

Not exactly worried about the flavour and experience, just get that caffiene powered laser-focus going!

I used to buy it for a weekend coffee but after drinking more varied beans the hazelnut flavour is just too much. As hehe said it might have its place like with some baileys or something as a weekend drink but for an everyday coffee the flavour is too much

GLOW has become a coffee monster. What have we done? :okay:

AstulzerRZD 05-06-2025 08:25 AM

This stuff was on sale at Whole Foods

Tried both. The Robusta needs heavy sugar, honey, or condensed milk, pretty harsh and flat for espresso even after an hour of dialing in the shot.

On the other hand, the Robusta/Arabica blend surprised me: full-bodied with bright citrus and layered flavors. Solid choice for those who like complexity without losing boldness.

Will try the blend next time I’m at Whole Foods Buffalo. I had the same experience with the robusta. No amount of adjustments can save it.
