literally it just translates to 'small rice' the ceo says it represents 'revolution'

xiaomi is attributed to a longer string of words used to describe the revolutionary army when they fought against japan and the kuomintang iirc the long string of words, 小米加步枪 (millet + rifle), describes the revolutionaries as not having a lot (some poormans rice and a rifle) but doing a lot with it (leading a revolution)

the full name of xiaomi is xiaomi-cellphone (they swapped the rifle out of the idiom) so making cheap devices, initially, also made sense with their name and I guess they're hoping to lead a revolution in the devices market

I know that you live in Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China. Like I said you live in a communist run country. Hong Kong is controlled/run by China.

Whats really sad about this thread is people are making fun of a company because of it's name like bunch of high school bullies.
