Is it weird to put import wheels on a muscle car?

Don't see an option for a poll...is there one I'm missing?

If you've followed my last post or recognize me, I was asking about tires. What I might do is sell the 18s with all seasons on it and get 19 aftermarket with summers.

Car: 2015 mustang GT magnetic

Been browsing tires and don't seem to like too many of the muscle car/mustang wheels from american companies. Like the look of bbs, enkei, and other import ones.

I've had varying responses about how much of a faux pas it is. What do you guys think?

trollguy 01-20-2015 11:19 AM

If it looks good who cares. I'd do it!

Just dont put Motegi MR7s on it

multicartual 01-20-2015 11:21 AM

Weird = good

dared3vil0 01-20-2015 11:52 AM

It depends. RPF1's, TE-37's, hell yes.

Sport Edition F10's, please no.

For an S550 i'd look into Forgestar F14's.

Timpo 01-20-2015 12:11 PM

yeah Volk Racing, especially TE37s are widely accepted among muscle car guys.. Work Meister is also very popular

that 1967 fastback is just a photoshop'd image. thank god. i'd punch someone in the back of the head if they ever did that to a classic muscle car. fucking gross.

westopher 01-20-2015 12:18 PM

Lol I was just typing a post about how I puked when I saw that stang, then hit back because I was quoting the wrong image, to see you posted the exact same rage I was feeling.

I was about to post something along those lines.

They look good on late models, but that '67 looks like shit.

Based on Timpo's pictures, I think the answer to your question is 'yes'

RRxtar 01-20-2015 12:51 PM

yes and no.

if you're putting 15 inch +50 offset FWD honda wheels on a RWD sportscar, you should be kicked in the dick.

if you're looking at wide and dished wheels maybe not so bad. some 'import' wheels look good on anything

how about post up an example so we can agree with your choice or fail you to bolivia

meme405 01-20-2015 12:59 PM

Have a look at some ADVAN's as well, their RGIII or RS-DF wheels would likely look pretty hot on a mustang.

swfk 01-20-2015 01:02 PM

I had Japanese wheels on my Euro so why not Japanese wheels on a domestic? As mentioned, no Motegi or XXRs lol

Unrelated note...why are mr7s so popular? You can get a set for like $200 on craigslist and I've seen them on just about every car.

hud 91gt 01-20-2015 01:47 PM

They were super popular 2002/3. They were cheap then. Now it's a saturated market with ugly wheels.

I was gonna put Porsche Twists on an EG, just for the rustle-factor. :troll:

OP, it's your car - do whatever you want. Some will like it, some will hate it. You're not going to please everyone so just please yourself. :ifyouknow::jizz:

Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, it's really as simple as that.

clevernickname 01-20-2015 04:36 PM

Someone asked what type of wheels I'm looking at.

Something like these..if not these. Although I have to do more research into quality and such..

Enkei Wheels - Tuning Series - Raijin

none of those are Japanese...

Motegi = division of American Racing.
XXR = formally known as Sportmax, it's a cheap wheel company from New Zealand if I remember correctly

I think it's more along of the lines of rim styles that were aimed at the Asian car scene, rather than brands based out of Asia.

punkwax 01-20-2015 05:05 PM

I want BBS' for my japanese car...

If it feels good, do it. Even if you shouldn't. Don't let people mess you around.

white rocket 01-21-2015 07:40 AM

It's all about the proper sizing and offset. From there you pick a design that works best for you. Anything Volk or Work with proper sizing would look amazing on an American car. A classic muscle car is a different story but they can also look good with Japanese style wheels. Again, it's all about proper sizing and fitment.

To put it in perspective, I would put TE37's on a Buick Grand National and piss off the purists. Lol!
