Used dealership won't accept car refund?

So my parents signed an invoice receipt for a used 2014 RAV4 with 13k mileage for about $25k and brought it home last night.

And they decided to return it today since that price was a rip off and I showed them on the toyota website they could get a brand new RAV4 with extra add ons for about the same price.

So the used dealership won't accept the refund and threatened to sue because my parents had signed the "contract" but they haven't actually pay any deposits or cheques for the car yet. So is it illegal what they are doing?

depending on what is stated on the contract, but 99.9% of the time, ur obligated to purchase the vehicle the moment u've signed the contract.

You can not return a car you have purchased. Make an informed decision, cause once you sign a bill of sale and plate the car, the only "refund" is trading it back in.

Nope, what the dealership is doing is not illegal.

lol, nah a used car dealership is not going to take it back just because your parents feel AFTER they bought it that they were price gouged. if the engine blew up on you, thats another story

Invoice receipt though. Not a legit contract yet. Plus, no money had been exchanged yet.

pretty sure once you signed an agreed price it's done. plus your parents have brought it home so the car must have been plated already and you guys have the title to the car. good luck getting out of this one without financial consequences.

If you didn't sign the transfer papers, you should be good to cancel the purchase.

Caveat emptor.

Never sign anything until you're 110% sure of what you want, as well as the consequences of it. Sorry to say it but your parents are SOL. Unless the dealer is some kind of Good Samaritan (news flash: used car dealers are usually the opposite) your parents are stuck with the car as they signed for it, registered/titled and plated it. Should have done some more research first...

Each dealership will have their own policies. Their isn't a blanket return policy for all dealers. Some offer a money back guarantee, some offer a return timeline and some won't do anything. Once you sign, you're in!

What are the actual numbers? Years of the cars? Did your parents include the Freight/PDI of a new car? What dealer they buy from (i.e. was it a Toyota)?

Do you have the vehicle in your possession yet? There are ways out of the contract, I've seen it twice now at the dealership I work at. The manager and salesman will do everything they can to get you to keep the car but just keep fighting back.

LOLWUT?

You do realize the difference between buying a mouse and a car is literally enormous right?

On top of that, futureshop has a return policy which allows for you to do that. I'm pretty sure this car dealership has nothing like that. New dealers do sometimes advertise that if you don't like your purchase you can bring it back, but I doubt any used car dealer would do that. Used car dealers are usually pretty greasy, and aren't about to let you out of a contract just out of their goodwill.
