The bandwidth cap goes both ways, weather it be upload or downloads, as long as there's traffic it's counted. Do u download a lot of torrents? Most ppl don't realize that torrents keep on uploading when it's done downloading so they end up uploading a lot causing high bandwidth usage.
I download some, but not many, and I have upload caps setup for all torrenting anyways. I think the culprit might be all the Netflix and MMO's we watch/play.

For me, I can't stand Telus's hardware whether it be their PVR or modems.
My family signed up back when the ISP was rogers and ever since then we've been with rogers/Shaw. My GF was with telus and as soon as I moved in we switched over to Shaw and never looked back.
We got the promo price of 6 months of BB25 for $30 a month then it goes up to $60 which I'm fine with. I may even consider upping it to the BB80 as I think we will be cancelling the discounted cable package after the 6 months are up or after the NHL playoffs. Never really watch anything on TV anymore besides sports center

What are they going to do? Every major provider have a bandwidth cap, Shaw, Telus Novus. Your only option is techsavy which is a lot slower.
Is your choice really pay for higher speeds with a limited bandwidth or go with a slower speed with unlimited bandwidth.
What ppl needs to realize is what they are doing online. Before ppl use torrnets maybe they should read about how it works instead of complaining when thier ISP cuts them off coz they uploaded 1TB in 2 weeks or use 750GB of download when their package only have allow 200GB of usage. Don't just assume is unlimited bandwidth. Just because your ISP don't charge you before doesn't mean they have to keep doing it.
Also ppl are more than happy to pay for extra usage if they go over the usage cap on their cell phones but not for their home internet not sure what ppl are thinking.
interesting. i am with novus on the internet 25 plan. it says the usage is 250GB. i was always under the assumption that it was download and upload combined of 250GB.
i went to actually check this for the first time ever and i found this:
Why does Novus separate the traffic limit for upload and download?
Novus limits upload and download traffic separately as a benefit to our customers. Most companies combine these totals, and as a result, users reach their limit faster. Novus separates upload and download traffic limits and in essence, doubles your traffic limit. For example, with a Net10 package, instead of the traffic limit being a combined 110 GB, you can use up to 110 GB for both uploading and downloading, as long as you don't exceed the usage for either.
Pretty sure IT can trace that, especially if you have a unique login to access campus internet.

bring attention about the twitter post. Not the whole ordeal itself... just unprofessional
What Am I missing? How is that unprofessional?
He said he’s leaving Telus because they are charging for overages. He didn't say HE had been charged etc.
They came back with sorry to see you go, but huge majority of their customers won’t be affected by the change.
They didn't say “Good luck, LOLZ” or anything else considered rude, they spouted facts.
It’s charging those who DO go over so those who don’t won’t have to pay more to support the system. Seems fair to me. Meaning that unless he IS going over, it won’t affect him either.
Why does this upset people?
Side note, Canadian internet is too damn expensive and our service/quality/speed of intent is terrible compared to the world in general. That’s not what I’m defending in this post. I'm also not a Telus or Shaw fan, so yeah.
Tweeted out that I'm leaving Telus after being a customer for 17 years. Telus had this to say.
Well, they're not wrong.
Don't waste your time tweeting a threat.
Call Telus, listen to the automated system and push the numbers that lead to cancellation. It's the quickest way to get to someone that actually has authority to give you deals.
If you don't like what you hear, tell them you'll think about it and call back another day.

Oops, I forgot about this thread.
I'm paying $46 for "Internet 15" + Optik TV and HD Sports package.
Internet 15 is fast enough for what I need, speed is consistent with what's advertised. 150gb bandwidth is enough for my needs.
I initially locked in for 12 months back in 2013. When it came to renewal, I just called them and went directly to cancellation. The first rep didn't give me much of a discount. So I called again a week later, and another rep gave me pretty much the exact contract I had, for another 12 months.

the bad thing about telus is that, yes telus does run fiber optic from the pole to the house, BUT, that optic cable bandwidth is shared with both TV AND internet. so if ur watching TV and using the internet at the same time, ull experience slow downs. each TV with a HD stream playing will take around 5mbps from ur internet bandwidth, so if u have 15mbps for internet, and is watching 1 HD channel, ur really only getting 10mbps, if u have 50mbps internet and is watching 2 HD channel on 2 different TVs and using the internet, ur real internet speed is 40mbps. this was quite some time ago tho so not sure if telus has improved things now.

I used to work as a Home Services CSR at TELUS.
Fibre to the home/condo only is there if you happen to live in a brand new subdivision/building built in the last few years. Otherwise the fibre is only going to the SAC boxes in your neighborhood, the last leg is still over the copper pair to your house.
The shared bandwidth between the Optik service and DSL is shared there's no getting around the technical limitations, you've got the basics correct, but most metro areas have had improvements to the bandwidth.
If you had the 15 Mbps internet, and Optik, your profile on the system was at least 19 Mbps. Your ADSL speed was capped at 15, but the TV 5 Mbps per HD channel would subtract from your 19 Mbps profile.
Generally most areas in the LM are 25-35 Mbps capable now. I know from friends that still work there that they're testing out pair bonding where you get 2x the bandwidth by running your internet line via 2 lines to your house.
