tell me about Westopher, I was watching 997.1 and 997.2 RS prices drop close to $100k a few years ago and bang they have shot up big time! even regular GT3! that dream is done......now I like watching Mclarens price dropping like mad haha!

I was looking at one up close the other day more intently than I usually do, and goddamn they are an amazing car. I wish they didn't have such a shitty interior. The 996 GT3 is still a dream car for me that has stayed in the somewhat attainable range so hopefully that continues for when I actually have 70k for a car.

Z3guy 05-28-2015 08:54 AM

^ the 996 interior does suck, but with the leather stitched dash/door panels and CF interior, it looks pretty decent. I sold my 04 996 GT3 for $60K, but for a low KMs one now they are going for mid 70s....still good value imo and because the car was built like tank, the maintanance is quite cheap......

trollguy 05-28-2015 08:58 AM

you get over the interior once you start driving it...

even with the peeling CF trim

westopher 05-28-2015 09:00 AM

I'd buy a set of the euro GT3 RS seats and the interior problem would be solved very quickly!

At least the Porsche GT3 RS will hold its value a lot better than a GT-R. GT-R is pretty much mass produced, everyone has one, just look at the streets. But there's so few GT3's, let alone RS.

GT-Rs are quickly approaching $60k.

Porsche 911 is pretty much mass produced just like GT-R. :suspicious:
You're comparing limited edition 911 so maybe you should compare limited edition GT-R

^ you can't really compare any of them directly as I do believe some of those are rarer and the prices have gone up to stupid levels. I may be wrong though, it's been a while since I checked the RS production levels.

Either way I'll leave them all to rich goofs who just want them to sit in their garages and I'll stick to cars that actually get used as cars.

At the Langley Porsche dealership opening there was a a circle of rich dudes I was on the periphery of listening in, the conversation went:

"I have 8 Porsches"
"I have 4 but two have less than 500 kilometers on them"
"I'm getting a 918 and a McLaren next week"
"I have 10 classics in a barn in Langley"

It was a giant dick-swinging contest and I bet none of those fat old fucks could drive worth a shit

I hate when Timpo posts GT-Rs in these threads because the GT-R is ugly, your grandma could run a low 11 in one, stock, and they seem to have little actual style. Not a big fan of Porsche but I recognize that Porsche oozes style. People like GT-Rs because they're the default "I have a fast car" car, if that makes sense. Soooooooo mainstream!

AzNightmare 05-28-2015 11:35 AM

Fans of Porsche will want a Posrche
Fans of GT-R's will want a GT-R.

Pretty simple concept...

If you can afford these type of cars, I highly doubt the performance is going to be a huge factor in swaying you one way or the other.
Unless you're a very serious racer who will track the car on a regular basis, and actually learn HOW to drive to push these cars to their limit.

These debates are based on vehicle potential that will never be seen from majority of the buyers.

I was there briefly as well, and the vibe from most of the people there was generally the same. Probably the least I've ever fit in anywhere in my life haha.

Imo you've got it backwards, Porsche effectively haven't changed the looks of the 911 since they first stretched out a Beetle, to me that's "lazy" not "style". Outside the realm of car enthusiasts the general public doesn't know what you're on about if you tell them you have a Nissan GTR, however if you say you have a Porsche 911 or a Chevy Corvette everyone knows those cars (ignoring that there's about 57 different levels of 911 now) because those are the two most purchased by people who care more about everyone else knowing they have a fast car than actually having a fast car. You could swap out the engine for one from a Corolla and half the owners wouldn't know the difference.

Production number wise 911 beat GTR by at least a magnitude.

911 sales more than 15k (aggregated) in US alone.
GTR barely crack 1500..

Pretty much the same for Canada where we get hundreds of 911 and low 30s in GTRs.

Subscribe to Automotive News Data Center.. they give the stats.

This is what I was thinking. GT-R is quite rare compare to Porsche 911.

punkwax 05-28-2015 07:16 PM

BRB posting a GT-R in the porno thread for Timpo to snap a batch.

You're effectively comparing all Skyline sales to all GTR sales, but you're still right. From 2006 to 2012 there were 4,600 GT3 RS worldwide, that's about twice as many per month as the GTR Spec V.

More importantly I found this cool .gif while searching for that information
