The nav ability seems cool, thought at that price it maybe worth a try.

I'm guessing for nav you would need to turn on a hotspot from your phone so you can use the wifi?
Also if you have the screen on permanently displaying a map your rearview mirror becomes pretty useless IMO

if the G1W-H's suction cup breaks, how easy is it to replace? It doesn't appear to accept a universal screw on suction cup

It is a ball type mount.. so I suspect other camera mounts will work.. however with a $40 camera.. when it breaks just replace the whole thing.

Anyone have experience with matego dash cams? are they any good?

I have the MG800. The camera itself is good, video quality is pretty good. The MG800's motion detector range is very good and sensitive. I use my dash camera as a security camera when my car is parked in my building's parkade at night. I had the MG188 as well, the motion detector would only detect objects moving right in front of my hood, while the MG800 can detect objects moving 3-4 car lengths ahead.

You can hook up another camera to act as a back up camera, but I never tried it.

The only negative thing I have to say about the MG800 is that the mirror itself isn't that great. I'm used to using those wide "broadway" mirrors so using this mirror took some getting used to. The mirror is also a bit dark.

looking into a dash cam and i'm wondering how the parking mode works?

so if the car is parked say in a parking lot with reasonable activity (like a mall or something), will my battery be drained? lets say it'll be parked there for 10 hrs, 7 days a week.

what does this "power magic pro" thing do?

Will 640x480 res. be able to read license plates?

It hooks up to the vehicles main battery, so drainage is an issue.

Power Magic Pro (Battery Saver) basically hooks up in line to prevent full discharge of vehicle's battery. You set the cut off voltage. Generally most vehicles only last a few hours before shutting down. In some rare cases on new cars w new battery might last 5-10 hours (rarely).

No good camera's are 480P. Only cheap chinese one's that don't have parking mode usually. Don't buy the cheapest thing you can find. You'll waste your money when it doesn't do what you hope it will do. Youtube 480P dash cam vids.

Need to determine what you primary needs are

1. Accident Recording
2. Catch hit and runs
3. Low light recording
4. Long Recording Time
5. Clear HD recordings
6. Quick/Easy access to videos (LCD screen or WiFi App)
7. Front or Front and Rear

If you want all, then it ain't gonna be cost effective.

10 hours of recording is a while. You would likely need a seperate battery for the DVR, and you would need a pretty big class 10 sd card.

Presently using a Lukas 7700 Pro with portable UPS battery pack(LK-530-12V). Lightweight,and small compared to DOD with a great picture.Purchased off Ebay 2 years ago.I would purchase another one.:fuckyea:

when it comes to the rear cams, I've a truck so the bed hides most of the view. There's already a back up camera on it so is it possible to just wire that in as well, or just put a cam as high as it can go and hope it works the best that it can?

The other option is hooking it up to an external battery

I use several Aukey 20000mah USB battery packs, the ones you use to charge your mobile devices. 1 pack is enough to power my dash camera on parking mode from 10pm to 7am 3-4 times before it requires charging.

1) Anyone know the difference between Thinkware F50 (1080P) and H50 (720P)?

2) I'm confused about this parking mode recording thing. An external battery pack is good if I want to record longer? What does this mean? doesn't the duration of recording time depend on how big the SD card is? Can someone educate the noob?

I believe parking mode, in Blackvue terms, means that it's running off the Power Magic adaptor. Which really just allows the camera to run a certain programmable time or till the main battery drops to a certain voltage.

There are others.... ;)...that have their own battery and turn on and record if there is an impact to the vehicle.

Do you wire it to your glove box where u hide the battery bank then?

could someone explain how "parking mode" is suppose to work?

Is the cam supposed to be on "continuous" record mode and when it sees "motion" or "impact" it will hard save the 1st 10 seconds and next 1 min to the "long term memory" of the SD card?

For some reason I thought the cam was suppose to be on "sleep" mode until it senses motion / impact and then start recording...

I'm so confused....

this is a yuge option for me...

Each camera probably works a bit differently. My camera's parking mode is very simple. The camera is on all the time, it only records when the motion detector sees something. It will record up to 1 minute from when it detected motion. If there is constant motion, then it keeps recording as long as there is motion detected. After 1 minute of the last motion event, it will stop recording.

Shitty cameras take a while for the camera to start recording and/or the motion detection range is very poor. My camera's record start time is pretty quick, detection range is about 3-4 car lengths ahead.
