Busted & issued a ticket for "distracted driving"

Not going to make any excuses for getting ticketed as I was 100% fully at fault for being on my phone while behind the wheel.
Spoiler!

Anyways, if you've heard on the news the VPD has really started cracking down on distracted drivers. The fine is $167 and I'll be paying the ticket off asap.

I hoped I would have gotten a warning but it is what it is. Just want to give a head's up to anyone who texts and can't put down their phone whilst driving to re-think using mobile devices. It's tempting but not worth getting ticketed over.
If you have to, pull off to side of road.

boostfever 03-26-2015 02:12 PM

Were you in an STI?

Dragon-88 03-26-2015 02:12 PM

I was on my Grom near Brentwood and they were sitting under the tracks behind the pillars. Totally caught me off guard and I was talking on my phone. Cops then asks me if I had a headset, I told him to wait as I was on my call.. Told my buddy on the other end that a cop wants to talk to me while i'm on my bluetooth headset. Cop then just tells me nevermind and carry on. Light went green, WOT.

:fuckyea:

texting and driving a sti?

GGnoRE 03-26-2015 02:59 PM

I will never stop using my phone in my car. Even if I get a ticket which I haven't for years because I use common sense, I'll pay the fine and continue.

knight604 03-26-2015 03:08 PM

Lol you are a idiot

mos_skeeto 03-26-2015 03:12 PM

If I have to talk while in the car I'll put the phone on speaker and toss it onto the passenger seat

Is that still illegal?

b0unce. [?] 03-26-2015 03:48 PM

^i do that too, only i toss the phone on the dash or something cause the passenger seat is too far and the sound is dogshit lol

GGnoRE 03-26-2015 04:15 PM

^ that's illegal, you guys are just being sneaky about it lol

Edison_Chen 03-26-2015 04:15 PM

I've seen a lot more RCMP's out in Richmond, especially at the intersection of Westminster and No. 3 road...

bomiheko 03-26-2015 05:14 PM

The response to the news of ticketing distracted driving is quite hilarious to me, especially on the news sites and fb. Before, people were like police not going to be enforcing, it's gonna be an ineffective law, blaming police for not solving distracted driving. Now that the police are out in full force ticketing everyone, people are blaming the police were wasting resources on such demeanor tasks.

Tone Loc 03-26-2015 05:44 PM

Personally I am glad that the police are enforcing it. Nothing grinds my gears more than some idiot - why is it always the lead car? - on his/her phone at a light who doesn't notice that the light is green and doesn't move. Some of us have places to go, if you want to do that kind of shit on your morning commute go take transit!

RRxtar 03-26-2015 08:05 PM

The sad thing is the idiots who couldn't use a phone safely while driving before the law came into effect are the idiots who still use a phone while driving.

The rest of us who were perfectly able to quickly glance at their phone while at red lights or stopped in traffic, are the ones who abide by the law now.

What if I mount my phone onto the dash using phone holder ?

Sadly, the cop can still cite you for disctracted driving, since eating + driving can be considered a distraction.

StylinRed 03-26-2015 09:42 PM

some dumb cunt was in the left lane last night, in the pouring rain, constantly braking, having trouble keeping it between the lines, and going 70km/h in her white merc headed to surrey

i ended up getting around her and noticing her busy retouching her make-up :rukidding:

What if my phone is connected to an auxiliary cable and I'm changing the song while waiting at a red? Am I distracted? What if I'm watching a fucking unicorn with wings fly over the intersection, mesmerized by its beauty. Am I distracted then? Definition of distracted is pretty subjective - what a stupid law.

ree666 03-26-2015 10:50 PM

Must be some good drugs to see unicorns. Then you'd get an dui.

Blah blah blah. This horse (or unicorn, as the case may be) is bleedin' demised. Get over it. We already have one Sebberry, we sure don't need another.

CharlesInCharge has been rather quiet lately, though, maybe you could drop by the dollar store for a few rolls of Palestinian-made tinfoil, fashion yourself a nice hat collection, and apply for his position.

Still doesn't answer my question if my phone is plugged into auxiliary and I'm changing a song. I'm still going to go with this is a bullshit law since level of distraction is subjective.

trollguy 03-27-2015 08:21 AM

^ agree. a lot of women still drive and put make up on. no tickets there. i see a lot of ppl glance up and down to get their coffees. no ticket there.... list goes on for acceptable distractions.
