Renting Higher End/Exotic Car in California (San Francisco) - Insurance?

I'm just wondering if anybody here has rented a higher end/exotic vehicle in California and how they were able to get insurance coverage?

My girlfriend and I are going to San Francisco for a week in July and we're planning to go to Napa for a day and I was looking to renting a Porsche 911 for the drive up and back.

When making the booking the rental agent inquired about my insurance because they mentioned that for vehicles over $70,000 they do not offer their own insurance/"Damage Waiver" and to inquire with my insurance provider (ICBC).

When speaking with the ICBC they agent I spoke to said that they don't offer insurance for rental vehicles over a certain dollar value.

So I was just wondering if anybody has rented any higher end/exotic vehicles in California and if so, how you were able to get coverage.

Thank you,

The rental car agency would sell you the coverage. Most credit cards also won't cover luxury/high end cars.

This is correct. Keep in mind, however, it will not be cheap, especially given the rental duration so be prepared to pony up!

Also, check your ICBC coverage. If you are unsure, talk to your trusted ICBC agent or call ICBC.

Be very careful with the insurance credit card provide because a lot of things aren't covered and the claim process can be a headache. I usually pay for the insurance provided by the rental agency.

Refer to Page 17 & 19 for the Roadside Plus and Roadstar rental insurance details.

What does it cost to rent a Porsche for a day?

I just got back from a 4 day rental of a 911 from hertz SFO.
I used my amex platinum which has coverage upto $85000k.
Amex insurance can be primary and or supplementary.

Hertz ask for 4 pieces of credit card for the rental.
I called my insurance company SGI, and basically was told between my own insurance and my amex platinum insurance i will be fully covered for the rental.

Great car.. Had a blast
