That looks like fun! I don't have some super expensive /exclusive classic car but I consider my 91 ef hatch to be a classic in its own right. I will sign up for sure if you ever consider adding in 80/90s cars

I got a 'thanks' on one of the posts in here, so reviving a way old thread. The 2018 Hagerty Spring Thaw is in less than ten days, going to be 89 cars total with 178 people. Should be fun!

Not sure why I didn't reply in 2015 to the above question, but the Spring Thaw does allow 80's cars under the "Delorean Rule”. Basically we look at 80's cars on an individual basis, to figure out if they fit with what we're trying to do. An 80's Ford Tempo, for instance, isn't likely to make it in to the Spring Thaw. But I've let in a Mercedes 190e, Caterham 7's, an Audi Quattro, an MR2, multiple Saabs, BMW 7-series, etc. Basically, if it's a car we lusted after in high-school...it's probably in.

Our other events, like the Fall Classic, Silver Summit and Maple Mille are more forgiving on the age ranges than the Spring Thaw. It's tough to let too many later model cars into an event that has a 25+ car waiting list. The others haven't sold out (yet)...so I'm definitely more flexible. Once you're in...you're in. So the folks who entered a car under the "Delorean Rule" once, don't ever have to worry again. They are treated in future years as if they owned a '60's classic.

The Rush to Gold Bridge, happily accepts 80s and 90's classics. This used to be a mixed gravel and tarmac event, but in the last couple of years we've offered a 100% tarmac option in the route book. 80's cars are accepted without evaluation, 90's cars get evaluated for their inclusion.

The Delorean Rule simply states that if you enter a car which doesn’t meet the age restrictions, and we accept it, you have to let me drive the car at some point, even if it’s just around the hotel parking lot. It’s was our way of weeding out the “Ferrari Types” who are too uptight about everything, as opposed to the true car guys who are a blast to hang out with.

Ahhhh, it's good seeing this bumped up.

Le gf and I went last year and had an amazing time. Nothing but excellent things to say about Dave and crew. Pretty sure Dave still owes me a beer from the numbers/sign-up mix-up though (I kid - you can make it up by forwarding me the stopover locations for this year's Thaw so I can do a one day cannonball to say hi :jiggy: )

I co drove many years ago (I think 2010?) and I loved it. Been waiting a long time to do something like this again, but seems like it will be another 30 years til my RS is retro cool lol. Maybe one day I’ll get a vintage rally car to bring along.

Rally Bug Build Thread

Technically our rules say "no trucks", but that isn't to say they haven't snuck in before. If they're street-based and or cool, they have a much better chance of getting in over a truck that appears to be more off-road related.

Rush to Gold Bridge is a BC based event, and the start location moves around quite a bit. Last year we explored the island, and even stopped off for some group caving. This year R2GB will be on the mainland, most likely starting in the interior somewhere. Typical dates are August, but the event shifts weekends as the date gets set by the GRC (now ARX) race series. I have to wait to see which weekend I have free!

The event runs in August, so normal summer temps. If we run in early August, I try and avoid the hottest parts of the province, and we tend to stay more coastal. If we go in late August, we try and chase the heat into the interior.

Whew! What an event. It started off so smoothly, beautiful sunny weather and an unreal mix of amazing cars. An accident on highway 1 (not caused or involving our group), and an unfortunate fatality tossed Friday’s plans out the window.

Our group was supposed to be enjoying a mountain-top dinner at Revelstoke Mountain Resort, but instead all but four cars were trapped in Sicamous with the highway closure. It’s not called “Classic Car Adventures” without a reason, and everyone took it in stride. A local restaurant (Moose Mulligan’s) called in all their staff, and hosted us for an dinner and parking lot party that will be remembered for years. Originally we should have arrived at 5:30pm to the hotel, but it was 12:15 am before the group was checking in.

Saturday went off without a hitch. We started with gorgeous weather, and then picked up some rain before it cleared up once more. We travelled from Revelstoke to Kamloops, via my favourite route in BC along Hwy 23 and Hwy 6.

Day three was Kamloops to Pemberton, via everyone’s favourite the Duffy. Total mileage for the weekend, 1,115km…plus whatever it took to get to Kamloops and home from Pemberton. Longest distance award definitely goes to Victor, who drove all the way from Cincinnati for the event!
