What will you be using your car for? What are you looking for from both cars?

Well I was thinking to import the spyder from Japan drive it around for a bit and sell it... the accord I would most likely just keep it to get it work and for everyday use

the spyder I could make a bit of profit actually off it though...

Reselling a car is a pita imo. I'd go with the accord but I might be bias

The thing about the 7G Accord is that if you want a V6, you definitely want the stick shift to go along with it. Unfortunately those are a rare beast to find at the best of times. The slushbox had issues, which were allegedly fixed after 2003 but I wouldn't necessarily believe that.

Yeah I like the 7th gen accord a couple of my friends recommended it also.. Im just worried about the transmission thats all, the owner said the transmission has been rebuilt already so it should be fine... but im hoping it wont go again when I own it...

There are design flaws with the transmission that will most likely require another rebuild down the road, rebuilding it once doesn't fix it permanently. If you can find a manual Accord or factor in the cost of a manual conversion down the road it might be worth it, otherwise I wouldn't touch one with a 10 foot pole.

See thats the thing here
both manual and automatic 7th gen accords both have bad transmissions

Limited 2004 Honda Accord V6 Manual
and ive done some research on youtube and everyone is saying the same thing and having problems with there transmissions..

it seems when honda steps out of there conventional 4 banger small car civic they cant make a car worth shit.

I owned a AP2 S2000 it had nothing but problems... Rear bearings went, front xenon headlight balist went, soft top got rips at corners, engine mounts were too close to headers which caused them to break prematurely. Than on top of all that the electric steering computer failed.

Don't get me wrong im a Honda guy by heart but I think Civics are the best car they made especially the B16A.

RSX Type S also is a great ride can't complain owned 3 of them never had any major issues besides the clutch go...

I Just dont want to buy a used car and have to put a new engine or transmission in if its not actually adding to the car, not just because there is a design fault in the car.

The Toyota MRS seems really reliable from what Ive been reading on the internet.

I didn't know even the manuals had problems, can you take a trans from a different Honda? I know a lot of the top-model autos were farmed out to GM for quite a few years so the quality doesn't surprise me much.

The MRS has a 1ZZ-FED which I believe is effectively identical to the regular 1ZZ-FE, they're very reliable engines and should be easy to find a replacement for even if the worst should happen.

its luck of the draw, I have a 07 coupe v6-6speed no issues at 120k. my 07 sedan v6 auto no issues at 140k.

Just gotta know how to treat the car. GM syncro mesh works wonders

I owned a 7th gen with a manual and, funny enough, my transmission grenaded. It was an ex-lease, however, so I had simply chalked it down to a shitty original owner. The second gear synchro managed to shatter and took out a bunch of teeth on the second and third drive gear. Luckily it was covered under warranty, but still. Not sure if that one was a design flaw or, as I suspect, the previous owner's shitty driving.

I'd just like to point out that the Accord is otherwise a good car. It's definitely not a sports car out of the box, but the right mods will absolutely help in that regard. It's also comfortable on long drives (with stock suspension, anyway) and is capable of holding whatever crap you want to throw in it. I did have a few issues with mine that Honda thankfully covered under warranty (switch pack on the driver's door, transmission, and a few other odds and ends), but I also put on an average of 40,000 km's on it every year, so that could have been part of the problem. All in all, though, it's one of the few cars I've own that I genuinely regret selling.

edit: If you do buy one and decide to lower it, don't lower it as much as I did. I scraped on every speed bump and literally got high centred coming out of the underground parking lot by Queen E after a concert. Not fun...

^ my ride height currently is lower and I have no issues

btw the 4cylinders 5-speed shouldn't have any issues, I'm guessing the previous owner just didn't know how to drive.

i like the look of similar year TSX's too...are they also ticking time bombs or are they different?

Yeah the MR2 is fun I dont have kids so why not have fun while I can right?

I dont know im going to make a choice by tomorrow thanks for all your input the Accord looks great performs well but the transmission will worry me all the time if I drive one and that isn't really something I want to do. I don't like buying peoples problems anymore. xD

Yeah see you got your car covered under warranty so thats like free fixing but when you buy a car after the warranty expired.... yeah not really a good investment especially if there a design flaw.

lol whenever I see a silver coupe it always reminds me of back to the future with that Delorean for some reason... xD nice ride

MR-S packs more of a fun factor in it. You'll feel its size being more interesting. It's also decently easy to maintain as it shares a lot of stuff with Celica/Corolla. Unless you need to drive 3+ very often, go for the MR-S!

This is true, I usually end up doing everything myself when it comes to cars because I like the satisfaction of working and completing it on my own saying hey I did this!

But I'm feeling lazy recently and just want it to be done

Manual Preludes are a hell of a lot of fun and awesome DD's. The auto is the worst of all the defective designs Honda put out back then though. And the top-level SH is actually less desirable for a few different reasons.
