Random Calls ?

Has anyone been getting random calls on their cell phone from the same prefix?

ie. my phone is 604-725-xxxx, been getting lots of random calls from other 604-725-xxxx phone numbers. usually because i won a trip or some shit or signed up for something
when i call back to that number i get someone's voicemail.

Does your number start with 604-725- as well?

I've been getting the same calls as well but with my prefix

When I call back the person always has no knowledge of dialing my number

Does anybody know how this works/how to make it stop? It's an unessecary nuisance

Same here but for 649 - XXXX, also have had people with the 649 prefix call me saying I called them multiple times from my number.

I called Rogers a couple months ago and the person I talked to said they were aware of the problem and didn't have a solution at this time. Not sure if that was bs or what is going on, but it's getting annoying.

It happens to other phones in my family too, all with different prefixes

Caller ID spoofing. As other have said, spam. And unfortunately no way to stop it. The CID system worldwide just broadcasts whatever the calling end says to, since it was developed in the old days before engineers considered someone other than the telcos would use the system.

You're better off not answering at all or letting it go to voicemail. By answering, you confirm there's someone to talk to so you end up on the A list when they sell your number to another company. You only end up on the first company's do not call list.

I get these random calls all the time to my personal number. So I call back and text using my work number to troll around to see what's up since it's annoying. Usually it goes to voicemail or the person says they didn't contact me loll.

I'm with Rogers and I heard that its because Rogers and Fido are selling phone numbers out, but I don't know the truth value behind this. I've received calls where the other person said they got a call from me, but my phone had been off because id been writing an exam, etc. Same thing happens when I call back or text back a number I received a missed call from. My conclusion is that marketing companies hide behind a real phone number so that we will pick up. :|
