Probably closer to 14 but it seems like 20? Shaw Cable didn't swap with Rogers and take over BC until 2001, I'm sure you were with Rogers before like me.

We got Rogers Wave cable internet in... oh, probably '95? Then they partnered with @Home... then swapped with Shaw in '01.

Shaw has generally been pretty good to us - got a bunch of great deals when we moved, including a couple extra Portal boxes, and bumped us up a tier in speed/bandwidth, essentially doubling both... all for no extra charge.

I just passed my bill cycle and received my bill today - no over usage and no extra charges. Sorry, freakshow!

knight604 06-10-2015 10:01 AM

I'm over on mine now lol, will update if there's a charge..

I'm also with Telus and heard that they will start charging in June. I'm seriously considering CIK Telecom now, anyone have more feedback on them?

Been a customer with them for a year, they do honor what they promise which is unlimited bandwidth, though I use only about 400GB per month. Customer service is quite spotty though, but when their service is down, it's usually their end of the problem, and will be rectified in a few hours.

I would say 90% of my bandwidth consumption comes from streaming media using a media player.

Otherwise, YouTube videos, Internet browsing, e-mail, music etc. makes up 10% of bandwidth.

Telus bluffing or are we still in the grace period?

Matlock 07-09-2015 02:02 PM

Telus dinged us for the last bill saying we were 400 gb over.
It's probably from all the netflix streaming we do.
$75 surcharge. Gf bitched and got it removed so we didn't have to pay this time.

We still don't have unlimited as she wants to switch to one of these new internet (not shaw or telus) companies. Anyone else try them out?

knight604 07-09-2015 04:30 PM

Went over this month again.. lol

Mr.Jay 07-11-2015 02:18 PM

you can add unlimited for 15 bucks which is what I ended up doing since I see 800GB a month lol

I got charged last month for going over, pretty sure I getting charged this month.

Might downgrade after the end of august to 25 from 50 since my student pricing is over and add 15 for unlimited bandwidth.

There's about 7 people who uses the bandwidth at home and I check the usage daily, I have stopped downloading and am still going over.

Stuck on 3 year contract as well..

bcrdukes 07-11-2015 06:04 PM

I've been very lucky as of late. Hitting at most 220GB of my 250GB allowance and on average, a 10% variance over the past 4 months.

I am okay paying the over use charge that is beyond my package's limit. If it goes over significantly for well over 3 months, I'll have to add the unlimited option. Contract or no contract, I think I'll stick with Telus. What bothers me the most about them are their reps calling me repeatedly to tell me I'm nearing my limit. I get an e-mail about this and all they try to do is upsell me. I've asked them kindly to remove me from their calling list. If it happens again, I'll have to file a formal complaint.

ImportPsycho 07-11-2015 09:28 PM

paying extra for unlimited
as soon as Novus kick into my building, telus can go to hell

:fuckthatshit: going to "upgrade" to 10down and 500gb. Hopefully that does the trick

Klondike 07-12-2015 03:21 PM

Didn't go over my limit last month :victory:

Steam sales were a bitch though. Had to wait to install some games so to make sure I didn't go over my limit last month.

Hehe 07-12-2015 06:53 PM

Added $15 for unlimited.

Between kid, wife and in-laws streaming/youtube 24/7 (they tend to leave the damn thing running as they watch shitty dramas to sleep) and I broke 450GB in the 16days that they have been back to Vancouver. :fuckthatshit:

Gh0stRider 07-12-2015 11:27 PM

thinking about adding the unlimited data.

Mr.Money 07-12-2015 11:43 PM

wow 150gb seems like a short limit...Well it looks like everyone is running the Social engineering job if they go over the limit "I've being with you guys for 20 years blah blah" or "yeah Shaw is Offering Free unlimited data i maybe go for them unless you fix this problem"

Speaking of which......i thought if you had telus Tv they wouldn't monitor your useage because the telus TV box would be using internet its self to get channels unless they've fixed that now??....i remember during 2003'ish this happening and people would get a speed boost if they powered down the TV Box.

freakshow 07-13-2015 07:56 AM

Just got my bill, and like everyone else, got charged for going over..

Did we ever confirm that Shaw is actually charging people now? Or are they still just 'warning' everyone?
