Tkachuk pls

Ch28 04-30-2016 04:26 PM

Probably a defenseman at the 5th spot unless any of the other teams go off the board

I'm convinced that even the if we were the worst team by far, we wouldn't get 1st with our luck

TjAlmeida 04-30-2016 04:26 PM

So... who is the consensus 5th overall pick? Wonder if Benning will look to trade down a few spots to get a prospect plus a defensemen.

highfive 04-30-2016 04:27 PM

Canucks Gonna draft Dubois

exactly what I'm thinking

6o4__boi 04-30-2016 04:31 PM

Depends what the Oilers do.
They might trade down.
I'm thinking Juolevi or Dubois.

Would u guys give up 5th and McCann or Virtanen to move into the top 3?

Mike Oxbig 04-30-2016 04:31 PM

oilers will pick winger tkachuk instead of a center leaving canucks to pick dubois

TjAlmeida 04-30-2016 04:32 PM

Canucks need a top defensive prospect. Might be worth looking at dropping and going for Chychrun, Sergachev or Juolevi!

What a maroon.

I would do that with Virtanen and 5th

LOL @the emotionally invested!

Obsideon 04-30-2016 05:04 PM

Damn now it's gonna get interested, I wonder who they gonna take... or maybe move down in the draft since all the Dmen seem to be hovering around the 8-10 picks?

Vansterdam 04-30-2016 05:07 PM

NO RESPEK

Ch28 04-30-2016 05:25 PM

It's really hard to figure out who the Canucks can pick because the Oilers pick before us and they have a positional need at defense just like the Canucks. Chiarelli is a smart GM, so I can't see him drafting anyone outside of Juolevi, Chychyrun, Sergachev, or Bean when that's clearly their area of weakness. They have Darnell Nurse, but he doesn't put up offensive numbers from the back end, so that's why I also included Jake Bean in the mix.

According to six sources that are recognized as some of the better guides/insiders in the business: Hockey Prospect, Bob McKenzie, Craig Button, Draft Buzz, Future Considerations and International Scouting Service, the prospect rankings are as follows:

http://i.imgur.com/mG16vaV.png?1

1. Toronto Maple Leafs - Matthews
2. Winnipeg Jets - Laine
3. Columbus Blue Jackets - Poolparty
4. Edmonton Oilers - ??? (Defensive need)
5. Vancouver Canucks - ??? (Defensive need BUT Sedins are 35 now for 2 more seasons)

The top 3 picks are essentially set. There might be some shuffling of players from one team to the other, but when everything is said and done, the top 3 will be Matthews, Laine, and Poolparty.

That leaves the Oilers and Canucks with the opportunity to select one of the following:

Dubois (C.LW)
Tkachuk (LW)
Nylander (RW)
Juolevi (D)
Sergachev (D)
Chychrun (D)
Jost (C)
Keller (C)
Bean (D)

Initial reaction I think that we all have is being angry and upset at the fact that we won't get Matthews or the Finns. All 3 will be franchise players that will start next season, but we'll still end up with a good player regardless of where Edmonton goes with their pick.

[edit] Craig Button just did his post draft analysis as to which player each team should pick. There are a few head scratchers there in terms of the Oilers and Canucks

Oilers have Nurse, Reinhart, & Klefbom in their system, all recent 1st round picks who play defense. Not sure why you guys keep saying they need to draft another 5-year project defenseman.

From what I've heard from Benning, he seems quite high on Dubois and Juolevi outside of the top 3.

Ch28 04-30-2016 08:05 PM

Griffin Reinhart sucks. There's a reason that the Islanders dumped him to Edmonton for picks. He was drafted 4th overall 4 years ago and he still hasn't been able to crack the lineup.

Klefbom is a decent player and Nurse doesn't have much of an offensive game.

jeedee 04-30-2016 08:08 PM

the dmen in this year's draft aren't game changers either.... wouldn't be surprised if the Oilers take a forward
