Not sure how you can hate on a player like Hamhuis, the guy's a class act, it's totally in his right not to waive his NTC, the fact he even gave us a few teams he was willing to go to was a bonus.... and anyone who knows anything about Hammer knows he wants to re-sign with Van the first chance he gets, his comments didn't make a difference

This is the build up of steven stamkos to vancouver this offseason
Stamkos would have to be high on weed to play for this team. Why would he play with the Canucks when he can sign with another team that has a legitimate chance of winning a Stanley Cup?
If teams better than Vancouver clear salary cap room to try to sign Stamkos, there's no way he would come here.
Willie D. would just put Dorsett on a Stamkos line anyway.

Exactly this. He took a hometown discount for this NTC and to play in his hometown. No problems with him exercising what he rightfully "paid" for.
If Hamhuis had a shortlist of teams, then Benning probably moved too slow or was too greedy.
Reporter asked GMJB if Vrbata got any offers and GMJB hesitates and stumbles on his words and then says that Vrbata gave him a list of teams and none of those teams gave any offers.

You could think like that, but on the flip side as is so often the case that's how 'this business' works. He's a professional, has provided his services in exchange for his salary, worked within terms of his contract (and more really), he doesn't owe anybody any favours.

Your hypothetical situation couldn't possibly be less comparable. He took a hometown discount not because he's good guy Dan, he took it cuz he wants to live here and that's all the team could afford. He traded 20% of his salary to live here, not because he was trying to save the organization money. Give your head a shake.
And yes, if I was asked to leave town for 3 months to help the company out and possibly play for a winning Stanley Cup team I'd do it in a fucking heartbeat. Or, to make your hypothetical situation actually make sense -- if my company asked me to go to New York for 3 months and I had the chance to work at a place that puts a huge sales deal together with me on their sales team then fuck yes I would go even if I had kids.
