I'm with Ulic on this one, I'm surprised not more people find this racist?

It looks pretty racist to me given the entire context of the situation.

Plus the whole idea of corruption and people making shitty products to get rich quick isn't exclusive to China. I'm sure there are other places where products are made and suck or have corners cut for profit. Plus this is not the case with ALL China made products. If everything made from China was poisonous we'd all be dead by now considering how much of the goods we consume day to day without realizing it.

But anyways, seems pretty racist to me as Ulic pointed out.

Sometimes I'm ashamed by what some mainlanders do too (i.e. kids pissing in the mall, rudeness, etc), but that still doesn't make this message less racist.

I posted this in the comment section but thought it bears repeating here:

There's a reason why people are sensitive to "China Sucks" and why "Germany Sucks" or "Ireland Sucks" doesn't hold as nearly much baggage. I'm sorry but most White people will never understand this reasoning because they never grew up with it.

It's because as an Asian person you're automatically grouped as "Chinese" whether or not you're of that ethnic origin or something else. You're singled (however subconsciously) out as an "other" just on the basis of your appearance and the biggest and baddest "other" in this day and age is China. No one will single a white person out for their European ancestry unless they flaunt it or are obvious about it.

Case in point: if an Asian person buys a house its "oh he bought that with dirty ill gotten communist party money", even if he's not even Chinese! But a white person here is likely never going to be associated with the likes of Vladamir Putin even if he's of Slavic origin.

I don't have to tell Asians who grew up here how easy it is to go from "China sucks" to "Chinese people suck" to "All you Asians should just go home" on the school playground. Unfortunately for some we haven't progressed much from grade-school it seems.

As mentioned by a lot of people here, the statement is more likely racist than not given the context.

But, my statement is "so what" everyone is a little racist to some degree. Racism will always be around and you are naive to think it will ever be abolished totally. One perspective I take from growing up in different continents is that I hate everyone "equally". In other words I am a Misanthrope- Google the definition.

I would call this racist, but I would not call the truck dude in my first post the same thing.

So we have one example where the guy with the truck with a message suggesting racist undertones. The example I posted is a display of blatant racism.

We have been socially engineered from a young age to say no to drugs, no to strangers, not to racism and all sorts of other things in life. Is it safe to say we are too sensitive? That's a touchy subject open for debate, but socially and culturally, we will think the message from the truck is "racist" but is it really? I would consider it more of an ignorant and misconstrued message more than anything.

Having said that, fuck you all. I'm going to meet multicartural for a quadruple Americano at Milano Coffee in Gastown.

WIth Social Media, any basement dwelling anti-social trilobite can start a blog / buzz page and post garbage just for the sake of stirring the toilet and it seems to work. Now we have garbage stories where someone is offended by something polluting the airwaves where stories of greater importance only get a very small fraction of coverage...

I feel sorry for the children growing up as we speak. Their innocence and optimistic outlook of the world will be completely levelled when they hit the tween age.

In literal sense, there is some truth to what the guy wrote on his truck. However, as Ulic so bluntly points out, I would be willing to bet he is a hill-billy racist who is most likely incapable of having a discussion about the global political economy and capitalism. Could be wrong....

But if that is the case, I do think that is quite offensive and racist, as he is simply writing some bullshit that makes a bit of sense to get his own method of hate across and attract some people to the bandwagon.

I think when someone makes the effort to go and put that on their truck, it becomes a lot more serious because they are trying to gather a following and create hate. You're either with us or against us sort of mentality. I think that's what gives away his obvious racist ideologies.
