Discount insuring multiple cars?

Is there a cheaper way to insure multiple cars? I have roadstar 10 year accident free discount with ICBC and pay $2500 a year for my CLK55 cabriolet, which I drive maybe 3 out of 7 days a week for pleasure because I work from home.

I have an electric 74 Beetle I built which I'd like to drive occasionally here and there. I also have a 300zx TT that I'd like to start taking to autocross and track days to over the summer. Both of these cars are just in storage with no insurance right now.

Since I can't be driving 3 cars at the same time, does ICBC have some sort of discount for 1 driver with 3 cars? or is my best option to buy temp permits($35 a day?) for each car on the days I drive them?

Your gonna have to buy permits. Don't cheap out and get minimum coverage though. Get the full coverage, You don't want your project car getting totaled without the proper coverage.... I'm Killing It.

Berz out.

I think Canadian Direct Insurance offers multiple car insurance.

Get storage insurance if they are just parked.

Your Beetle and 300ZX should be near Collector's status.. so you can look into it.

Hagarty is in town now, so that is an option but it is for non basic insurance.

vehicles must be stock with a few allowable mods, electric beetle not happening. 300zx if it conforms to allowable mods.

Yeah both cars are far from stock. Although 300zx is mostly engine/turbo upgrades, but I don't think that's allowed according to this: http://www.icbc.com/vehicle-registra...ries-parts.pdf

It's kinda Bs since most of the mods only apply to carbed domestic vehicles. Don't really take into consideration newer FI vehicles that are eligible. There's a lot of mods you could be doing purely for driveability and reliability that technically aren't allowed.

Honestly if the 300zx looks mostly stock I'd just send in the pictures and play dumb about any internal modifications. You have nothing to lose. I'd like to know how it works out since I wouldn't mind getting a 300zx Tt on collector plates

Yeah, basic has to be through ICBC, but I mean for additional coverages, there could be some savings.

The only "special" case I've seen was a guy who had 5 of the same car(older Camaro or something) and ICBC sold him a fleet policy knowing that only one of the five cars would be on the road at one time. So they gave him a set of normal plates that he could switch between each car depending on which one he wanted to drive. It was more than just the price of insuring one of them but way less than insuring all 5 at a time. This was for pleasure use only.

ICBC Fleet

Minimum requirements
You have five or more motor vehicles that are registered or leased to you or your company, and
the vehicles are primarily used for commercial or business purposes.
What about trailers?
Trailers can be included in a fleet, once the minimum requirement for motor vehicles is met.

hmm.. so buy 2 more cars then get fleet discount? the question is how much is insuring 5 cars as fleet vs 3 cars as individual.

What about "starting a used car dealer business" and get dealer plates? It'll come with flipping cars on the side for fun plus the perks of having many cars and drive different ones.

A dealer license is easily $1500 or higher per year for one license and one salesman. A fleet garage policy is value driven meaning that the total cost of vehicles and who is driving them is what produces the cost of the policy. You pick how much $$$ you want to insure for and how many people are driving them(only one person in this case) and there's your annual insurance.

ie: 3 salesman, 3 d-plates, and $325K worth of vehicle assets WITH 63% discount(maximum discount for dealers) it would cost you about $9k per year. That's with 5 mill PL & PD(liability) and a $2500 per occurrence discount for collision and comp. Take away 2 of the salesman and lower the assets to $100k it would pretty much cut that into a 1/3 but with a zero discount level due to it being a new business you're getting raped again.

How does discount work with dealership? start at 0% and 5% each year in business?

I'm honestly not too sure. I have not been intimate with a Garage Fleet Policy at the 0% discount level and watch it grow. Only maintaining a higher discount and protecting it. I would imagine that it is a claim rated scale. Each year ICBC will calculate how much money that made off of you compared to how much you "used" the policy against a claim.
