Raw Oyster's

I'm wondering where to purchase oyster's from to eat them raw rather then going to restaurant's and paying $24.00 a dozen when happy hour isn't on? Looking to purchase 5 dozen or so if the price is right and I'm not really sure where to go for the best prices and that I won't have to worry about quality.

Granville island

$24 a dozen at places like the boat house is a fucking joke, on top of that their oysters are shit compared to a lot of other places

I agree, its complete rip off especially when they sell them for $1.00 during happy hour. I just want to bring a ton home, make oyster shooters and eat them all with the GF

you konw what. to be honest, i did that before.
i used to buy them for 1 dollar in china town, but here's WHY you don't do it.

1) you need to MOFO shuck themmmmm. I'm really good at it with tools but dang, out of 50 I do, easily 5 of them are in bad shape and I have to toss them out.
2) it takes a good hour from getting it home to shuck 50 oysters.
3) Limited variety.
For 2 dollars, it's not that bad, with variety and no shucking, i'll pay 2 dollars, but at 3.23 or 3.50 would be way way way too much.

I'm not worried about shucking them and that's part of the whole experience as well. Sitting around my table outside drinking and shucking oysters is a pretty good time!!

I for one wouldn't trust getting them from China town

Try contacting Albion Fisheries in Vancouver. They are a wholesale place dealing with cruise ships, restaurants, etc. They do off-sales sometimes to the public. I've bought from them before. Good peeps.

Other places like Albion may be worth checking out.

7 Seas: Fresh Seafood store, serving Vancouver, Richmond, Surrey and Langley

Their selection varies, but pricing is quite decent. Last year, royal miyagis went for $8/dozen

^Just be ready to dodge them bullets!

Thrifty's Foods sells fresh oysters as well.. not sure how much, sorry.

I'm surprised 7 Seas is that affordable. When the spot prawns were in season, the South Surrey one wanted more than twice as much as the local PriceSmart.

I go to Seafood City (also at Granville Island).
I get Kumamoto and Miyagi. But they aren't exactly cheap varieties.

I don't think those varieties can be had for less than $1 each.

Do you know what varieties 7 Seas and Lobster Man have in stock?
