Describe how your car reacts when you punch it from a stop, from idle, no launching!

As per the title. If you're stopped at a quiet intersection at 3 AM, clear roads, no traffic around, in Mexico. From idle in 1st gear, if you floor it without launching, letting the clutch out quickly, how does your car perform?

Sample:

Pushed back fairly hard in the seat immediately. The tires chirp loud several times and the RPMs shoot up to 2000-3000 quickly with a perfect balance of tire spin and acceleration. No bog. RPMs then climbs very fast to 4500 or so, as it climbs to 4800+ and beyond the engine stops breathing completely and I need to shift to 2nd. 2nd gear the car chirps the tires and pulls hard to 4500+/- RPM; then it falls flat on its face in 3rd gear. This running out of breath effect is very noticeable, especially compared to any of the forced induction cars I've owned. My Vortech S2000 pulled so hard after 8k RPM it felt like it could spin to 10k+!!!

Make: BMW
Model: 318is
Engine: 5.0 Ford V8, 187 rwhp as per RG dyno
Mods: Underdrive pulleys, 1.7 roller rockers, K&N hot air intake, 3.91 rear gears, 3.35 first gear ratio, 255/40/17 el cheapo yet-grippy rubber

I still find it hilarious you managed to build a 5.0l V8 with one of the strongest aftermarkets of any engine, ever, to 187whp.

It is a stock 5.0. Probably still outrun whatever you drive. :smug:

Stick to the topic, if you can write.

Hehe i don't think so. :)

Anyway back on topic, It just kinda... Goes. Builds power smoothly to a redline of 7300, doesn't have much torque so it's all top end. Like any other +/-305hp V6 i guess.

My car would bog and stall. Maybe if I am lucky, it would buck a couple of times like I was a rodeo cowboy before stalling.

AstulzerRZD 07-17-2015 07:12 AM

Nothing really happens as the tires spin until 3000 RPMs, then hook up. (215 width tires for 244hp..)
Car starts to sound angry as the 3 stage VTEC hits the 3rd stage, and just goes.
Upshift to 2nd gear feels like there's some weird torque boost/multiplication going on.
Car continues to pull until redline at which point it's at about 110km/h.

Make: Honda
Model: Accord
Engine: J30A5 V6 - Rated at 244hp SAE 2005 standard.
Mods: Premium Gas.

Fun fact: Honda rated the J30A4/A5 in the 7th generation Accord at 240HP on Regular Gas in response to the Nissan Altima, which was rated at 240HP on Premium Gas. According to the one of the engine designers (Yasuaki Asaki), feeding the J30A4/A5 Premium will result in an advance in timing and about an additional 10 HP after about 1 tank of gas worth of driving.

From 800 rpm to 2500 is embarrassing slow, minivans are passing you and laughing. 2500-3000 turbo starts to spool and you start catching up to the minivans, 3000 to 7000 turbo kicks in and bye minivans, wait where did they go I can't see them no more?

If you've ever floored a stock civic, it's basically the same thing so yeah nothing really exciting happens

Pulls good in first gear to redline. In second, torque dip noticeable from 3000-5000.

You need launch though. Example?

Yesterday pull into Kitsilano Safeway parking lot. Turn into lane. Find parking spot. Notice someone turns into same lane as me:(. Turn right signal and hug far right as much as possible. Gesture for car to go. Notice another car behind her:( :(. No go. Turn on hazards. After 5 seconds woman goes. Notice kids in back and as woman drives by she gives me a huge glare.

Kids cant see. Gave the bird for 5-7 seconds. Reversing into initial spot. Some dude comes walking towards me. Looks pissed and coming at inappropriate speed with girlfriend behind looking unsure. Turn up song on called "Meanwhile back at mamas" to 35. Man stops for 2-3 seconds. Press traction control off. rev to 4000. Drop clutch. Wheel spin. Young man with World Cup non-qualifier jersey turns around and keeps walking. Dicked car into spot.

Young man gone. Walk carefully to the original woman. Told her I just wanted to back into the stall I wanted, in as friendly way as possible. But told her didn't appreciate her facial expression.

Get into store. Security guard looks like he is falling asleep so said something nice to him. Fit young man doesn't even look at me and disappears. Female acquaintance hangs around me in produce section. Hoping she notices my jersey or was it the Italian Zucchini's? Walk around for a bit. Had a nice conversation with a Safeway worker in uniform about a whole local salmon he put in his basket. Asked if it'd be good till Saturday.

Notice the kids didn't even look like her "mom". They were running around like kids non-typical of what you'd see when shopping with "mom" or "dad".

No damage done. Saved a few dollars on paper towels to mitigate a few dollars of clutch. Task accomplished.

The joys of AWD :(

I guess its kind of similar when you try to cum, after already cumming. Kind of like when your Dawn dish soap leaks out of the nozzle after tipping it over.

I stomp on the gas pedal. The yellow bars move slowly from 0-4000 rpm. There isnt much power... kinda quiet and slow.... like flooring a civic.

At 4000-6000rpm, the yellow bars start to move faster and the engine starts roaring to life. Wind starts tickling your hair and you feel yourself being pushed back into your seat.

At 6000-9000 rpm, the engine screams like a girl about to get raped. I get slammed back into my seat and my head touches the headrest. The yellow bars instantaneously shoots up and suddenly starts to blink red furiously at 9000 rpm.

I quickly shift into second gear. Shifting feel is precise and silky smooth like a baby's bum. The tires chirp as I stomp on the gas pedal in second gear while the engine still howling in anger. The wind is getting strong and if I look to my right, my gf's hair is flying around like the sentinels from the Matrix. I quickly glance at my digital speedo and the numbers can't keep up with my actual speed.

In confusion if I am speeding or not, all of a sudden the lights start flashing red again! I quickly pushed it into third which feels like thrusting your penis into a pussy for the first time. Engine still screaming in agony.

The red traffic light ahead is approaching fast so I stomped on the brakes. The brake feel are bit spongy like a women's tits. My eyes widended in fear as a I approached the red light and wishing in my head that I didn't shift into third. I stop right at the line and I quickly and sheepishly turn down the volume to the radio because I secretly like Bad blood by Taylor Swift. I look over at my gf with a big smile on my face. She brushed her hair away from her face and a frown and unimpressed face appeared.

The red light turned green and once again, I stomp on the gas pedal.

^ Hahaha!!! Yes! I remember my stock 00 S2000... below 4000 it was slower than gaining an erection to the Golden Girls intro

zilley 07-17-2015 12:02 PM

my car reacts by showing me the gas gauge just went down half a bar.

brrrz 07-17-2015 12:53 PM

brz -
2,000rpm slow
3,000rpm slow
4,000rpm slow
5,000rpm makes a little more noise....still slow
6,000rpm engine is screaming but still not going anywhere
7,000rpm red line blinker starts flashing and you shift

meme405 07-17-2015 01:02 PM

If I floor it from a stop my car literally turns money (in the form of petrol) to happiness and lights up a smile on my face... Some of that money is also turned into loud noises. Overall it's pretty outstanding.

richardmozis 07-17-2015 01:24 PM

TC on - As soon as you floor it the car points toward the sky and the steering goes light - Instant torque pulls you to redline

TC off - As soon as you floor it the car quickly runs through the first few gears as the rear tires are destroyed

Pretty much describes most older AMGs

Berzerker 07-17-2015 01:58 PM

From a stop the car shudders and slightly lurches as the twin disc clutch tries its best to slip. The revs bounce as I try not to over rev and not stall at the same time. Now I know why it said "not recommended for street use" Foot to the floor and the noises from the 4" exhaust start to drone. As the RPM's increase the turbo starts to spool. For the first few seconds I'm happy, then boost hits. The subtle exhaust notes suddenly turn to hell hath cometh and the tires spin madly as the wastegate shoots flames out the hole in my hood. I struggle to hold the wheel as the torque steer and lack of traction take over. I quickly bounce of the rev limiter as my reaction time to the shift light isn't quite ready.
2nd gear comes way to soon and I have my foot planted firmly on the floor for the shift. 2nd gear is exactly like first. Fire and brimstone (and spinning rubber) Finally starting to get some traction now just in time for 3rd gear. At this point shifting into 3rd I could put a bill on the dash and feel confident no one could reach up and grab it. 3rd gear I'm holding the wheel as strong as possible as the car floats with a combination of torque steer and power. Finally time to merge with traffic, they really need to make better merging lanes......

Berz out.

You'd be surprised how peppy it is. With the gearing I have it is plenty quick in 1st and 2nd gears, which is perfect for living in the city.

My 357 rwhp Vortech S2000 and 520 rwhp(pump gas) T88 Supra would smoke the E36 5.0 by the top of 2nd gear. However, the 5.0 right off idle will put you in the seat and feel much faster than both of those cars from a complete stop. Around town the E36 5.0 is more fun than the S2000 or Supra, but on the highway the E36 5.0 runs out of breath fast after about 120-130 KPH. The Supra at 130 KPH is just starting to REALLY haul ass! I remember nearly shitting my pants at how 130-200 KPH went by:

130-BRAAWWWWWRRRRRRRRR for 2 seconds-200!

In the E36 5.0, do I need much acceleration beyond 130 KPH? Not really, not the way I drive now.
