Yah, so how does it help those people getting charged unjustly out by outing all of them? I get that it ruins Ashley Madison but they're not exactly going to bat for the consumer here... Pretty sure every single one of those guys would pay 100x that $19 fee to stay anonymous lol

If Ashley Madison closes down the names will not be released. It does not mater if you pay $19 they still keep your info. Ashley Madison still claims Over 38,085,000 anonymous members. The number has not changed even after they let people delete there accounts for free.

Depends on the country.

Yah I understand their terms, but my point was that it still doesn't make sense to threaten the customers, it's not their fault AM is run the way it is and they have nothing to do with their battle against the website itself.

So yes.

I sincerely hope that every single legitimate member on that site gets their lives fucked up.

Devil's advocate: What if that person was in an open marriage or a swinger? It's not like they're cheating if they're given the okay by their SO. Does that person then deserve to have their identity stolen?

This isn't a great argument. It sounds like you're saying if it's morally wrong, it's subjective, but legally wrong is black and white.
However, homosexuality was also legally wrong (and still is in some places).

So to that effect, even though the hackers may be legally wrong, it's not black and white. Someone might not agree with what they do, doesn't mean squat.

This is not a cause of identity theft. No one is getting huge credit card bills in the mail that is not theirs.

Really the company that runs the 3 sites should have had way better security.

John McAfee claims to have hacked them again by just calling them.

Is it still considered an affair in such a case though? Since if you're in an open relationship there's no reason to "cheat" per say.

I don't see why not? The email addresses have been made available on public domain.

But the info was stolen. If someone steals a movie and posts it online it's not legal to download it. How is this different?

Ferra 08-19-2015 01:55 PM

apparently they don't require users to verify their email (You can sign up using whatever email you want and it will get added to their database)
so many of them are probably bogus (even tony blair's official email is on the list)

i guess it gives those cheaters an excuse / defense saying someone signed up with their email

Berzerker 08-19-2015 02:31 PM

Plausible Deniability. I have a friend who is on there and I checked her email on a site and it showed up. Her husband is also on there but his didn't show up. She used a @hotmail and he used a @comcast. Perhaps some show up and some don't?

Berz out.

Manic! 08-19-2015 02:43 PM

The e-mail is one thing the credit card info is another. People paid $19 to get there profiles deleted. The profiles where deleted but the credit card info was kept.

Hmmmmmm... We did kinda wonder why you'd disappear for lengths of time at autocross back in the day and then mumble something about "tightening your nuts" before heading out on a run
