| Acer or Asus?
So I'm looking at two different laptops right now and just looking for some input. 99% of the use is going to be for league of legends and Netflix. One is a acer amd a8. Has a 2.0ghz processor, 8 gb ram, 1TB Hdd, 1024mb on a dedicated video card and 1366x768 HD resolution. The other is an asus x series. Has a 1.9ghz Intel core i3-4030u processor, 8 gb of ram, 1TB Hdd and 1366x768 resolution. I'm leaning towards the acer, however I've read a lot more negative reviews towards them then I have asus. Plus a lot of those problems seem to be coming from overheating. Anyone have any personal expierence or can recommend a similar laptop in the budget of 600 max?

Spec-wise, the Acer has the discreet video card, which is a plus, especially for gaming. Acer support seems to be better as well, and they have a repair depot in Burnaby. I had to get my tablet fixed under warranty, and contacting their support via chat was easy and painless.

I don't have experience with Acer products, but every Asus product I've owned has crapped out on me literally just a day or two after the warranty period. Bad luck? Perhaps. I don't know.

Asus comes automatically with 1 year accidental warranty on top of their 3 year warranty.

I would not recommend the Acer of that time period. We've tried a few of their laptops in that era, and they sucked ass. Support was also crap. However, Acer has really upped their game in the past few couple years. They're worth some consideration, IMHO.

For home use I always recommend Asus.
For business I recommend Lenovo.

Asus x series is pretty much at bottom of the barrel.
dont expect G/N series built quality. Quote:

No Asus laptops come with 3 years warranty, mostly 1 year, some 2 years.
but what's good about their warranty is that it's usually international, or North america worst case.

i have been using ASUS ROG's for work . 14-17.3" variants. they have been rock solid and easy to maintain. with the recent dip in specs, we recently changed to MSI and love it. (we do alot video intensive stuff at work )

have had multiple acer netbooks, $600~ laptop, and budget work desktop from Acer.
the netbooks and cheap desktop work fine. they're slow, but they do the job that they were advertised to do. works well enough.
however, the $600 laptop was disappointing. the specs were good (just like your comparison here) compared to other manufacturer's price points, but i regret spending a bit more for a different brand. screen died after less than 2 years, cpu consistently 90c+ when you ask it to do anything worth doing (yes i've changed the thermal paste), battery doesn't even get detected anymore etc.
It still surprisingly works. I just use it as a secondary desktop. It's fine to use day in and day out, but god damn, it is pretty crappy build quality.
acer if you want something cheap, you don't care about, but works
asus if you want something a bit better.
either way, bottom of the barrel. at mid-600, lenovo's come to mind.
