That type of mentality, albeit completely rational, obviously doesn't exist in the states for a large portion of the population

westopher 09-02-2015 10:41 AM

It will take a generation to change it, but it needs to be instilled in children's education that gun violence is not whatsoever "normal" or a positive part of American culture.

The good parts of America are the West Coast and that Eastern part that includes New York but everything in between is a barren wasteland of backwards inbred idiots that think being a Christian is about hating gay people and Mexicans. I've been to Wyoming. I've been to Arkansas. And Georgia. And Utah. It's goddamn awful. Texas is actually halfway alright, really but you can safely say that at least half of America is stupid by even by the most participant medal standards. At least.

how relevant to this topic, considering the shooter was black and gay.

twitchyzero was saying something about how most Americans aren't Wal-mart weirdos and he's right...almost exactly half of America is and the other half is normal people.

Everyone says, oh if they can't find a gun legally they would just find one anyways.
How many would it prevent if they couldn't just go to a fucking store and pick one up with a box of bullets and a bottle of coke? I fucking promise it would be more than none. Violence is so incredibly often a reactionary experience. The more time and effort someone has to go through to commit a crime, the more chance there is of it being either
A) Prevented
B) Given up
Its like when people are asked about the gun violence in America, they just say ahhhhh fuck it. If their gun laws weren't an issue they wouldn't have as much gun violence. Its pretty simple. Its not fucking 1846 anymore and people don't need guns to protect themselves from their government which is why the second amendment was created in the first place.

but why does 'gun control' have to mean take everyones guns away from them. why cant gun control mean make acquiring a firearm license be more like canada with a detailed application process, strict screening, mandatory multi-day training, an exam, and 30+ day wait time? in canada its pretty common for someone who had mild depression as a teenager over a decade ago for it to take 12 months and several references before they approve their license application.

Not sure what everyone else had in mind, but isn't that exactly what gun control/regulation means? Taking everyone's guns away to me wouldn't be gun control but more like a firearms ban (which I really wouldn't mind either way).

That's just the thing, I don't think most liberals' version of gun control means taking them all away... but to your average NRA-card-carrying-conservative, that's exactly what it means.

America is the land of black-and-white, in more ways than one. There is no middle ground, it's either one way or the other.

"That bushmaster gun that the kid used in Sandy Hook cost $1000 american, you can buy it in Walmart and it'll be delivered to your house. That same gun in Australia on the black market cost $34,000.
Now if you have $34,000 you don't need to be a criminal, you've got $34,000 you're a great little saver, keep going!"

"The kid in Colorado who thought he was the joker, let's say that he had some "social issues". The kid at Sandy Hook was aspergers as fuck. I don't know if you know a lot about the black market, but you can't just rock up at the docks going:
GUNS! WHO WANTS TO SELL ME A GUUUUUUN!!!"

- Jim Jeffries. Fucking spot on.

Sometimes I think comedians are the only sane ones among us.

Where did he mention taking anyones guns away? The entire post you quoted talks about people buying new guns, nowhere in there does it say anything about existing guns, yet you still pull the full NRA response and assume that any slight mention of controlling who could buy a new gun means somebody is going to drive around the country taking everyones existing guns away. It's that kind of mentality that makes people question the intelligence of gun owners.

westopher 09-03-2015 09:30 AM

That response was an example of the gun lover thinking any mention of making guns more difficult to acquire means a raid of their house by the secret obama communist police taking all of their guns away.
As I said, it should be more difficult than walking into a sports store and buying a gun. There needs to be more regulation. I don't think everyone needs to throw their guns in an incinerator to help curb the gun violence in america to some extent.
