I think I'm going into the dealership to check the 2016 Golf TDI. I testdrove the 2015 one and was not impressed.

Can anyone recommend a good VW sales/dealer?

Unfortunately my sales person at Cowell VW moved on, but compared to the sales floor at Jim Pattison Surrey, Cowell had a friendlier feel to it. When I bought my 2012 TDI last year, I was initially in for a Tiguan, but found a freshly traded in Golf that ticked ALL the boxes: less than 60k, extended warranty, no goddamn sunroof, and manual. They helped me out a bit on the negative equity on my trade-in, and gave me time to change out to my winter tires that probably had more value than the Evo X wheels I had on it at the time.

To me they were alright, but YMMV.

Redesigned 2015 or newer Golf TDI wagon should do the trick for you. You'll get everything and more compared to the A3 TDI. From the rear, it looks a little bit like a BMW. One 2015 listed for $28,4 at Capilano VW. With the $21K saved, you can chip that thing to like 200hp .. there's your 'GTI'.

yea no

quattro adds weight and audi says if youre buying diesel, you want to save money. ergo adding quattro is counter productive to what youre doing when youre buying diesel, for canadian market at least.

So my sales at VW has just confirmed with me that TDI Golf Wagon is no longer available for sale until further notice.

And A3 TDI is more or less the same thing.

There is a 2015 on CL, white, $30K, used sale by owner, not dealer.

I wonder if these car's value (sale by owners) will actually go up since all the ones on lots will now have to be tuned down to meet emissions standards.

Will definitely go up in the near future. You can't buy any new TDI from any dealership right now.

In the long-term, I'm not so sure. There's always going to be diesel fanboys, but I think the mass market is not going to forget this for a few years and probably will walk away from TDIs.
