from the 3 to the 5 i used to get brand new phones handed out like hot cakes, even for dust etc. mind you in the unibody 5
now last time when i smashed my screen, i gotta pay $60 on top of my additional apple care+ and all they did was replace my screen rather than give me a new phone, even when the edges were banged to fuck and left gaps at the new screen :/
hopefully get one replaced no problems this time

Really? I paid $130+ tax to replace my cracked iPhone 6 screen today, out of warranty no apple care, and when I came back 2 hours later to pick it up, they just gave me a refurbished phone instead!
So ended up breaking my screen before I could get into the apple store..
I have one more remaining claim on my AppleCare+, should I just back it up and dump it in a bucket of water to ensure I get a new phone before I bring it in?

I really like the silicone cases at the Apple Store, but I don't really like their prices haha Are there alternatives that are cheaper, but similar feel and style?
If I bought a telus locked iphone, can I just take it to telus and pay them to unlock it? Are there other ways of unlocking iphones these days
I doubt Telus will unlock it for you.
When I used to work for them, they wouldn't unlock my iPhone which I paid outright for minus their employee discount. If they won't unlock an employees phone, then I doubt they will unlock a random non-customer's phone. Generally their policy for unlocking phones is that you keep your account in good standing for 3 months before they'll unlock it for you.
I'm willing to bet most of the iPhones you buy off CL are people who did a HUP and just sold the phone to you. I think your best bet is to go with one of the 3rd party unlockers unless you can get the original owner to contact them and get it unlocked.

I got my iphone 5s replace last year due to a wifi issue. I did some test on the PC and schedule an appt. They just suggest to wipe the phone and try again. Didn't fix it so I went in again about a week later and they just replace my phone. Note I have apple care as well and didn't have to pay anything.

They should be able to. I bought my coworkers iphone 6 last year after she thought she lost it bought a new one but ended up finding it lol. I told her just to send them a tweet on Twitter asking to unlock and within 10 mins she got a response and it was done.

The unlocking policies changed quite a while ago. The current policies are completely different now. Now unlocking employee devices is treated the same as any other consumer.
