There is a pitlane rumor that the matte paint is more for fluid dynamic effect as looks (something similar to the paint on the hull of a tanker ship). It does look the business though!

No one seems to know whats going on and ferrari quit in Q3 with 6 minutes left??

The new qualifying format is terrible, it needs to be changed right away before the next race... The pole was decided with more than 3 minutes left in Q3, whereas before you didnt know until after the checkered flag...

Absolute garbage. Who's idea was it to require teams to do an out lap, flyer, in lap, and repeat within ~6.5 minutes?

Maybe it will help the race with the cars being out of order? I don't know. I'm lost.

BTW now we know Mercedes is still quite far ahead of Ferrari... I'm really glad to see Mclaren Honda doing well though, not running way in the back of the grid like last year

Merc with the demoralizing 1sec advantage over Ferrari..Now we know that Merc was sandbagging over the winter and FP1/2/3.

Quali was a shit-show.

Super choked with Q3.

I can't conclude that Mercedes has a clear 1.000s advantage over Ferrari. We'll find out in the race, but I don't feel like the gap is that big. I don't think that Ferrari put in their best lap in Q3, while Mercedes took two attemps, both faster on their second run.

Garbage qualifying, needs to change. At the very least drivers should be able to complete their flying lap before they're knocked out.

And this forebodes for another boring season of Mercedes 1-2's. I would have expected the other teams to get a lot closer after three seasons.

On a more positive note, I'm pleased TSN is showing the ITV feed. Was never a fan of Coulthard's commentary, Brundle is so much better, along with Ted in the pit lane. For those who have TSN5 you can watch the full pre-race and post-race coverage :)
