StylinRed 01-10-2016 10:25 PM

wow didn't think a lot on rs would care, so I just made a post in the other thread, it's cool to see he's still relevant... at least to us older members :)

RIP :okay:

the many faces of Bowie

His videos for his latest album are quite morbid, naturally because he was dealing with his cancer, the album had been getting a lot of praise before his passing, I imagine it will get far more attention now

[/QUOTE]

though I read a lot of comments saying its a hoax... probably just denial? :(

StylinRed 01-10-2016 10:31 PM

well his son just confirmed it, in answer to the doubters

murd0c 01-10-2016 10:35 PM

He's a musical legend and had some great movie rolls over the year. He changed music so no question hopefully RS cares of all ages!!

Tim Budong 01-10-2016 10:43 PM

world's coolest and only cosmic rock superstar :(

RIP

carisear 01-10-2016 11:08 PM

not a fan of his music, but RIP still. I know tonnes of people that liked him.

N.V.M. 01-11-2016 03:53 AM

his best music was done by the mid 70's. Ziggy Stardust, Aladdin Insane, Diamond Dogs. legendary coke habit.

then, the "Let's Dance" shit started...ughhh. i'm guessing most of you were'nt around when he was in his musical "prime". parents freaking out by his androgenous look was pretty funny.

David Bowie's music was always a generation ahead of its time.
The guy is a legend.

And I just picked a couple of his early albums on vinyl last week.

For a little light-hearted look back. Flight of the Conchords "Bowie's in Space"

Soundy 01-11-2016 09:13 AM

Never been a big fan of his music either, always had massive respect for his place in music and what he's done for the art. Just about anything anyone has done style-wise, Bowie did it first. Except maybe rocking the big 70s mustache...

The man made an entire album while dying, even starring in music videos. That's pretty fucking inspirational in my eyes. Do what you love until you can't do it anymore.

Listen to the Lyrics. Some parts sound like an epitaph.

Another legend has left for the unknown beyond...

StylinRed 01-11-2016 02:44 PM

^^^ yep and his last one, that came out a few days ago, is even eerier... I wonder if he had an AS? since he still looks quite strong and healthy in the videos (granted I don't know when they were filmed etc)

Much Music is showing all his music videos atm and I completely forgot he sang this song, I loved it as a kid, still do now, it's on repeat :D

so apparently Bowie was the first Rock concert held @ BC Place

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – David Bowie was known a trendsetter in music and fashion, but you may not be aware of a local first.

The legendary singer-songwriter, who passed away over the weekend at the age of 69, also had the distinction of performing the first rock concert at BC Place.

The show came just weeks after the stadium’s June 1983 grand opening before a crowd of nearly 54,000.

“I do remember that show, for sure,” recalls Terry Chan with our sister station JACK.

“It was a big, big event here. Honestly as a kid, I remember thinking, ‘Wow, I can’t believe that this shiny new stadium is going to be opened by David Bowie!'”

The headline on the frontpage of the Vancouver Sun the next day screamed, “BC Place Gets Its Rock N’ Roll Baptism.”

Chan agrees and says the concert was a very big deal, given the level of Bowie’s fame at the time.

“As it turned out, it was probably the time of his biggest commercial success in the `80s with the Serious Moonlight tour and then touring behind all those great songs. It was a very, very good show.”

Legend has it Bowie turned his dressing room into a sushi bar.

He ended up playing two nights at BC Place in August 1983 and would play under the dome again four years later.

A 1997 tour stop saw Bowie play a now legendary club date at the Plaza of Nations.

Chan says Bowie will best remembered for doing things his own way.

“He’s done the music that he’s wanted to do. He’s just done whatever the heck he’s wanted to do and he’s never been accused of doing it for the money, for the success, for the fame. He’s just done it because he’s David Bowie and he’s going to do it this way and I think he’s been very, very well respected for that.”

Must be generational - was the same with Freddie Mercury. "The Show Must Go On" was pretty much the perfect song to end his legacy. Same with "Hurt" for Johnny Cash.
