Alleluia is only good for the pick 2/3 menus - their other dishes aren't as good.

Kingspark is good too, but it doesn't open late. (pricey, though)

Gloucester used to be good until they switched a few chefs around.

Copa is overpriced as well.

BT Cafe is good, but doesn't look that great inside.

I agree a lot with your ratings. Never been to silver tower so will try it out..

Silver Tower is not bad. Parking there is terrible. They have a really dark decor inside which is vastly different than what it used to be when it was called Golden award.

Out of curiosity, does Lido make pineapple buns all day?

I'm kind of craving one but can only make it to Richmond for dinner-ish times....

v_tec 01-21-2016 11:18 AM

Been a while since I been to Silver Tower.
Are their pricing in the $8-10 range? or more towards $10-13?
Extra for cold drinks?

dat_steve 01-21-2016 11:40 AM

happy date does fresh pineapple buns too (with butter if so desired). solid suggestions in this thread so far lol

I did not know that. Will try it out and see how it compares to good ol' Lido.

Early in the day, yes. You see the bun case right at the entrance. It's always steamy they make fresh batches every time it's empty. Not so sure when it gets to later in the day after 2pm.

Yea... I have only been there during breakfast hours when you can substitute the fresh buns in but I wonder if its still fresh at night too, or even if you can still buy it

They have mini sets for around the $8 - $10 range before 6pm and after 9pm. During prime time, their meals are around $10 - $13, but the portions are much more generous. I don't recall if they charge extra for cold drink.

Alleluia was my go-to because their milk tea was pretty awesome and the food was not bad, but it has taken a huge nose dive since. The angry lady making the drinks no longer looks angry. Maybe her son got married and she's happy now. :okay:

Lido's milk tea is pretty good, but I feel that they charge a premium in comparison to the competition.

Use to work in Richmond 7-8yrs ago, so I've been to all those places with the exception of BT Cafe. From memory, unless they refurnished their space, they were pretty run down already, so I can't imagine what they're like now. Copa, at least the Vancouver & Coquitlam one (never been to the Richmond one), still looks nice and clean.

GA was the best.

Nothing will beat Golden Award

Amigo: For their Cajun chicken rice with spicy tomato sauce (african chicken steak rice)

Kingspark: For all baked goods/western style stuff

Silver Tower: Late night richmond, open til 3 I think. Usually go for more asian style stuff.

Gloucester: Last call at 12:30am, I usually get western stuff there

Lido: Only good for french toast, pineapple oil and milk tea. I can't believe people justify paying the amount they charge for the rest of their garbage. $1.7 extra for cold drink? $8 for instant noodles? $26 for a large claypot rice that barely has any meat? LOL. Fuck the stuck up owner too

Yummy Yummy (parker food court): When I'm :alone:

good

Angel on Fraser isn't bad either for those who don't want to go to richmond.

jinxcrusader 01-21-2016 04:00 PM

Copa has the best milk tea for me, IMO

Really? If anything I find their milk tea the worse. I always have to ask for it to be less milk to be more inline with other restaurant's flavour. But I guess its a subjective taste. So I tend to stick to ice tea now

bcrdukes 01-21-2016 06:37 PM

Oh, if you are referring to the quality of milk tea now, yes, it's awful. Back at least 3 - 4 years ago, it was much better. There isn't enough tea in it - it isn't bold at all.

v_tec 01-21-2016 07:59 PM

Been shitty for the past ~2 years for sure. Can't recall 3-4 yrs ago as I didn't go that often back then and went to the place next door 2nd floor...whatever it was called before 1 + 1.

I have no idea what the MSG content is in those soups -- I would not be surprised at all if they use some. But I don't get thirsty after having it.

But I agree with everyone here -- Lido is definitely on the pricey side.

I'll keep that in mind but when I go to HK Style cafes it's because I'm craving baked pork chop on rice, spaghetti bolognese or curry beef on rice. I rarely venture out of these go-to dishes.

Totally agree with that. It's good but not worth the extra they charge.

I only like the one at the Richmond location. Coquitlam's tastes a bit different and it's been a while since I've been to the Vancouver one since I prefer Cafe Gloucester a few blocks down.

Trinity 01-22-2016 09:18 AM

FYI Lido is closed until Jan 27 and I dunno why. The sign's all in Chinese. Damn Chinese signs in Richmond.

Pretty sure it is just the restaurant's annual vacation this time around. I was there right around Christmas (can't remember if it was the 25 or 26th when everything else was closed), and they were working their regular hours then. They were also opened during New Year's Eve and New Year's Day.

Not at all surprised that they want some down time too.

You understood that they're closing that day, message delivered. You really give enough of a shit to ask why?

E-Canteen?

AXKA. 01-22-2016 10:08 AM

I actually liked e-canteen food, 1+1 is not bad either it's pretty good if you need something cheap and quick

From what I understand, they are going through renovations. That's what my friend told me when I said we should get some epic dirty food at Lido. Didn't see the actual sign, myself.
