Burnaby RCMP say a "fraudulently obtained" black Range Rover went through a red light at high speed before hitting the red car being driven by the female victim.

The Range Rover then jumped the curb, crashed through a metal sidewalk barrier, before coming to rest in bushes. A female driver and male passenger fled the scene and remain at large.

The incident happened around 11:45 p.m. PT.

Police believe the female driver of the Range Rover may have a head injury.

From the CKNW site:

Corporal Daniela Panesar says witnesses saw a man and woman getting out of the SUV and running up the street.

“Airbags from the suspect vehicle deployed and police believe the two people inside this vehicle were injured as a result. It is very likely that we will gather DNA evidence from that vehicle. So, it is only a matter of time before we are able to identify the people involved.”
Somebody gonna get hurt, real bad.

when that happens and once the suspects hear that they've been identified on the news - they'll "come forward and cooperate with police" as it's the right thing to do...

meme405 03-10-2016 12:29 PM

Fraudulently obtained but not stolen?

So someone borrowed a friend/family members car without permission?

How does one fraudulently obtain a car?

thumper 03-10-2016 12:31 PM

Damn. I just realized that this is the same intersection where SG was hit and had his first lexus totaled awhile back.

twitchyzero 03-10-2016 12:32 PM

the sentence will be lighter if they come forward vs being identified?

Does taking a customer's car for a spin, count?

Knew her personally.
Super down to earth girl that had a bright, beautiful future.
It's a shame it had to end this way, especially at only 25.

Something with side impact airbags/better side impact safety ratings. 2000-2002 Corollas like what she was driving are not great at side impacts... Have seen a few at crash scenes as a volunteer first responder and they were damaged quite badly usually.

If they were drinking, the opportunity for the crown to test their blood/alcohol level will be lost to time. Speeding + leaving the scene is going to carry a different punishment than speeding + drunk + leaving.

bastards.

That's what I'm wondering too.
Although I'm sure the RCMP have probably spoken to the registered owner.

This is like the case of the Porsche Cayanne running down those guys in downtown Vancouver many years ago. It took a long time for them to figure out who was guilty.

Sorry to hear that. 25 is far too young to go.

Rest In Peace...

Traffic yesterday was absolutely horrible and can't believe this happened.

Isn't that the intersection where one of RS members got a serious accident long ago?
IIRC light camera was installed after that accident, and couple people had to suffer with other accidents to let finally the city realize how important to have proper light & cross walk 1 blk up near Willingdon Church entrance..

*sigh*

yeh that was the first thing people at work seeing this on the news at lunch said too. probably took off so that they can sober up.

maybe the fraudently reference meant they did some identity theft thing and bought the RR using someone's credit card/bank info

Just terrible. The death of innocence fucking infuriates me. The good news is that Karma is a motherfucker and it always rears it's head at the worst possible time for those that deserve it.

<---hoping for justice of any sort.
