"I bought a S2000 and got ripped off " article

Surprised this is not on here yet

Here is the story and link I bought a S2000 and got ripped off - S2KI Honda S2000 Forums
-----------------------------------

I recently bought a S2000 from someone in Los Angeles. The deal was for his car as is which included OEM HARD TOP, OEM HARD TOP STAND, VOLK RACING TE 37, KW V3 COILOVERS and GREDDY SPECTRUM ELITE EXHAUST.

This is the Craigslist AD that has since been removed by the seller.

I flew over to Los Angeles on 2/26/2016 and met the seller Allen/Bo Hong at the auto repair shop ( PARAGON AUTOMOTIVE in Monterey Park, CA ) where he worked as a manager I believe.

He was very polite, courteous and seemed like a good guy. The guys at his shop lifted the car for me to inspect the under carriage, I test drove the car and everything was in line. Me living in New York I obviously had to transport the car back and Allen graciously offered to let me leave the car at his shop until the truck transport arrives, promising me that it will stay safe inside his shop for the duration of time until it gets picked up. We shook hands and I gave him a certified check for the car and flew back home to New York anxiously awaiting my car.

This was the last time i saw the car when I left it at his shop before I flew back home to New York.

Fast forward to today 3/15/2016 and i go meet the truck driver to pick up my car.

Missing:
OEM HARD TOP STAND
OEM GPW HARD TOP
KW V3 COIL OVERS

I can't reach him by phone but he replies to my email .. "we didn't sign any proof document on paper saying the car includes hardtop and suspension" and I get the car "as is" which seems to be a term he likes to hide behind now. He is correct, I did not have him sign any documentation stating the car includes the parts but I DID buy the car from him and left it in his possession with the hardtop and suspension intact. The parts were only removed after I had left, a basic BAIT & SWITCH. There was a Craigslist AD and has since been removed. Most of our conversations happened in person or on the phone. We spent 3 hours talking about the car at his shop and hanging out.. We even went to his house and picked up a spare set of mats he had for the car. Never did I expect to get scammed by this guy and trusted him; lesson learned, don't trust anyone!

Not sure how to proceed next and i live in New York.. I would at least like to spread the word on the West Coast that this guy is a Grade A SCUMBAG, running a business and ripping people off.

According to the Jalopnik article, the business has nothing to do with the sale. Says the guy who sold the car is the owner's friend and never worked there. Would be shitty if it were true.

From Yelp:

Quote:
I was on the phone with my cousin when he took his 93 metro in and I was shocked what I heard over the phone. the owner tried telling him "You're lucky that nos didn't blow the welds on the intake! Now me and the mad scientist gotta rip apart the block, and replace the piston rings you fried."

I thought he was joking when my cousin said "you almost had me".. Then the owner said - "You almost had me? You never had me - you never had your car... Granny $$$$$$$' not double clutchin' like you should...."

I was appalled. My cousin Said he didn't want to do business with someone that was so disrespectful. Low and behold the owner had to have the last word and yelled " Why don't you try FatBurger from now on? You can get yourself a cheese and fries for 2.95, f**got!"

Can't believe the business practices.

Crazy stuff.

Last I looked, there were like 3000+ users and 3000+ guests reading.

It's very heartwarming to actually see things like these because you know that the world may not be all sunshine and rainbow, but there will always still be faith in humanity somewhere out there.

That's why I hate these dumbfucks that post their personal garbage all over the internet. Call the cops, go talk to a lawyer, and sort your shit out yourself, don't go running to the internet because 90% of the time somebody that had nothing to do with it gets fucked as collateral damage.

I've followed the thread on s2ki - that business was definitely involved.

I saw this the other day and it immediately made me think of the accessories that go with my 993 when the new owner takes it away Friday.

OEM manual, tool kit, air compressor, floor mats etc are all easily removed and can add up to thousands of dollars. Some dealers will take these parts and hope the buyer doesn't notice. In this case it is smart that the buyer saved a copy of the craigslist posting.

Good to hear he has authorities involved. Hope he gets the missing parts or money in lieu. Seller should be responsible for shipping the parts to New York.

How involved? It says he seemed to be a manager, unless he's also the owner it's pretty shitty to fuck up the business because one of the employees was a douche on his own time.

Read this at work today...sounds like it's starting to shape up for the seller. Good luck to him

Even if the business didn't mean to get involved, they got involved by letting the guy use his hoist and stuff and use it to store the car. Some of the screenshots of what the business is responding to peoples posts are hard to believe and are deserving of the stuff they're being put through now regardless.

even if social media shaming didn't happen the business would still partially take the fall because management/shop resources and space was involved in the fraud.

I'm not a lawyer, but if the parts were on the car when the sale was made, that constitutes "AS IS" at the point of sale.

So the only way the the seller would get to keep the parts is if he had a signed agreement that said the parts were not part of the sale.

It's like when a family member of mine bought a house, before possession the sellers decided to take a bunch of the light fixtures and swap them with cheap pieces of shit.
Well, those light fixtures were on the house at the time of showing therefore were considered part of the sale, the sellers had to return them. If they wanted to keep them they would have had to put in a subject stating that they were not included at the time of sale.

I think you'd have to prove that the shop knew the guy was removing parts that were supposed to go with the car and that he did it at the shop to say they should take part of the fall. If one of their employees fucks someone over on his own time that's not his employers problem.
