Living Room TV Suggestion's?
 

Hey guys, I'm considering to upgrade my old TV in my living room as I feel it will make the ambiance look more appealing with a THIN NEWER- MODERN TV..

I'm set on a 50 or 55.
I'm looking at BEST BUY, and Samsung SMART TV's have 3 different one's all within the same price range..

Just wondering if you guys would go for this

Couldn't really understand the differences (google researched)

if you're gonna buy somthing new, you gotta get a 4K set

bought my 4k samsung two years ago when it first came out wont be upgrading anytime soon cuz that shit was expensive haha but best picture on the market thats for sure...

future proof yourself now since you need a tv anyways. dont get anything other than a 4k display..

It wont really be for everyday use..
Mainly to cater guests when people are over..
As I only have internet and not cable, would this make a difference?
4K is kind of out of budget,
I am looking toward $1300 max, 4K TV's run $2000+

Costco has some good tvs too and great warranty + return policy.

Goto Visions Electronics and get a 4k Uhd TV.
Vision will also better the price and there extended warranty is giving back to you when its expired as a store credit if you never used it.

Forget Open box thats all used garbage and Bestbuy offers no deals..

Been watching tv's for awhile need to pull the trigger in the next few weeks I'm thinking a 65" 4k samsung and a 75" LCD in the spare room for gaming etc. Visions definitely has better pricing from what I've seen.

my parents bought a 4k vizio a while back, picture obviously isnt as good as the XBR but it's pretty nice, and i believe they got the last model at best-buy for $899 when it was going for 1200

The refresh rates on most 4k TV's that I have seen have been pretty shitty no?

I bought a Samsung 55" TV a couple of years ago (I forget the model) and hated it. The dynamic contrast control, even at the lowest setting (impossible to turn off on that model) was ridiculous. Playing any game with a dark scene meant looking at a black screen. Any time the credits came on after a show/movie, you could barely make out the names. Samsung support was beyond useless. Picture quality was mediocre even on normal scenes, IMO. It had other issues, too. Slow, unresponsive interface, shitty SmartTV functions, etc. For about a grand, it was extremely disappointing.

I took it back after 2 weeks and got a Sony W790. It had its own problems out of the box, but it didn't take long to fix them (which was essentially disabling the power saving options, though it took a little bit to figure out that was the cause). Quite happy with the TV aside from the occasional Netflix issues.

i would recommend a FALD display...don't waste your money on anything else in that budget no matter how 'sleek' or 'smart' they might appear.

Personally I think 4K is a waste at the moment. Really depends if you want to future proof yourself for 4K. Currently there's barely anything that's 4K anyways. By the time it's mainstream, pricing for 4K will drop huge and be way better.

I used to sell TV's a long time ago when flat panels were just coming out. Everyone was buying HD TV's (720p)for stupid amounts of money but again nothing was 720P anyways. Fast forward 15 years later and 1080P is finally standardized. Had I bought a HD TV then would've been a waste in my eyes. Wouldn't have been able to use the HD TV much until 8+ years after. By that time better TV's are out for less.

Makes more sense to me to just buy a 1080P TV now for like $1000, then in 5+ years upgrade when 4K TV is like $1K. End result probably spending about the same and you won't have a 1st generation 4K TV when things start coming out in 4K.

If you're a tech junky that just wants bragging rights about 4k, hardcore gamer waiting for the new PS4 4k, or have a hardcore computer you plan on hooking this to, or download 4K movies then buying 4K makes sense. Just my opinion.

I don't think UHD is gonna be mainstream until the stupid internet providers get rid of the internet caps, or double the download cap.

What's the big hype with 4k anyways. The content you watch on cable isn't even 4k heck is only 1080i. Cable companies are not going to start streaming 4k to your TV and content providers (CNN, CTV, HOB etc etc) have little to no interest to start filming their shows in 4k.

I mean do you really need to watch the news in 4k? In sports it might be useful but again there is the cost to the content provider.

^ its about future proofing yourself. for $1300 OP could have easilly got a 55" 4K tv and would have been fine for 6+ yrs down the road.


oh and who even watches cable tv anymore? i dont know how anyone has the patience for all those damn commercials.

I'm in the same boat. I have an "ancient" 42" Panasonic plasma that I would like to upgrade. People seem to rave about Vizios, but based on what I've seen, modern LEDs can't match the picture quality of old plasmas.

I don't think caps for 4K is really an issue these days. Unlimited downloading from re-sellers seem to be at reasonable prices. I'm looking at Lightspeed.ca and they offer unlimited downloading for another $5. I'm a Netflix subscriber so I would theoretically be able to benefit from 4K streaming.

if you don't care too much for picture quality...a 720p set from 12 years ago is just fine.

if you're gonna dish out $1300...better get your money's worth with 4K/HDR/Rec.2020

4K didn't make sense in the last few years when the industry couldn't settle on a standard...with UHD Blu-rays finalized and shipping it'd now be a waste getting a 1080p set.

With PVR pretty much standard these days who watches commercial at all anymore?

The 4K panels native resolution is 4k, all content is shown in 4K regardless of the signal, so imo everything looks better automatically.

Netflix alone already has hundreds of hours of 4K content along with all the YouTube stuff.

The only people who I've ever heard argue against 4K sets are people who don't have them/haven't seen them.

My buddy has an older Elite Kuro, always said fuck 4K I'll keep my TV, then he saw my XBR and was blown away.

Obviously all TV processors are not created equal, but when I was buying my TV 2 xmas's ago, the argument THEN was "future proofing"

Obviously two years later we are over that hump and with Rogers now supporting 4K TV services, and Netflix releasing all their new original content in 4K, what a mistake to not get a 4K set imo.
