BLADE RUNNER 2

Blade Runner 2 Reveals the Future of Future Los Angeles Is Pretty Grim

Blade Runner 2 Reveals the Future of Future Los Angeles Is Pretty Grim

The first Blade Runner movie takes place in the far-off, hard-to-imagine year 2019, and the upcoming sequel takes place several decades after that. As this first concept art reveals, the future of future L.A. isn’t bright at all.

“The climate has gone berserk – the ocean, the rain, the snow is all toxic,” [director Denis] Villeneuve says to Entertainment Weekly. Things seem to have generally gotten more horrible since the first movie, as humanity has continually trashed the planet and ignored the consequences. It might not be particularly subtle, but it does seem appropriately Blade Runner-y—after all most animals had been eradicated and replaced by synthetics by the time of the first movie. Nature is obviously next to go.

Here’s another:

EW says:

The vehicle pictured in this exclusive concept art from the sequel, Villeneuve says, is a kind of snow blower that hovers over the streets and destroys snow. He laughs. “It’s a Canadian wet dream!”
In the original movie, the studio infamously added a “happy” ending where Deckard and Rachael escaped the city, presumably to live in a cabin in the woods somewhere. Not that I think Blade Runner 2 will acknowledge that ending, but it’s clear that even if they did escape, their freedom from humanity was... limited.

It appears the Blade Runner Sequel will shed some light on a mystery that has lasted over 30 years.

In the first theatrical release of Blade Runner the possibility that Deckard might be a replicant was left ambiguous. Later on Ridley Scott added a changed ending to the Director's and Final Cut versions of the movie and admitted he had always intended Deckard to be a replicant. This was apparently the cause of the fighting between Ford and Scott on set as Ford disagreed with the idea and always thought of Deckard as human.

The movie version of Deckard's character seems to have been changed to a secondary one from the book named Phil Resch, who was teased as being a replicant programed to think he was a human Blade Runner.

Ford will be reprising his role as Deckard in the sequel so either he has an extended lifespan like Rachel was said to have in many of the versions, or he is the human the Deckard replicant model was based off of. No word yet on what role Ryan Gosling will play, but Scott did add a timeline. Either way, Scott is keeping mum on the subject.

"I'm not going to tell you," Scott replied when asked. "You'll have to see the story. It'll all make sense."

"It was 2017, so coming back it'll be 2047, roughly. As young as you can play Ryan Gosling. He's 34, but he looks 27 when he’s doing his push-ups. So maybe 2050."

Blade Runner 2 begins production in 2016.

if they make deckard a replicant you know Ford is going to be heavily CGI'd in this sequel, don't know how I feel about that, unless they apportion a giant amount of the budget to his face alone

unless somehow the story makes dekard a replicant than can age and "die" like a human, instead of just suddenly shutting down when the timer hits zero.
