Surrey Creep Catchers president arrested for assault
Surrey Creep Catchers president Ryan LaForge has been arrested by RCMP, according to a member of the organization.
LaForge was arrested Monday night following an operation by the vigilante group which claims to expose alleged child sexual predators.
LaForge and Nicole Hunter were in an unidentified mall Monday night, with Hunter talking to a man they allege was trying to arrange for sex with a six-year-old girl.
After LaForge confronted him with a video camera, the man could be seen standing up and walking away.
LaForge and Hunter following him, saying: “The cops are on their way. You know what this is? This is a citizen’s arrest. You’re not going anywhere.”
When LaForge and Hunter caught up with the man, they tried to detain him. In the video, LaForge could be seen pushing him against a wall, and yelling threats and obscenities at him.
The man could be heard saying, “I got to go. Please don’t touch me.”
In a Facebook post, Hunter said the man was taken away by police. Then, “after we gave our statements and our evidence and we were about to leave (police) arrested Ryan for assault.”
She said LaForge was handcuffed and taken to the police detachment.
This is not the first time the vigilante group has been embroiled in controversy.
The Surrey Creep Catchers has been hit with two defamation lawsuits in recent months.
The first, filed by Sean Smith of Campbell River, allege LaForge published a series of posts identifying him as a pedophile after he posted a video on Facebook criticizing the vigilante organization’s activities.
The second claim was filed by Jamie Su of Abbotsford, who claims he was identified on Facebook to be “involved in a scheme to procure sexual relations with an under-aged female.”
None of the allegations have been proven in court.
