Rules for street parking if the sign is stolen / gone?

Found a spot near my girls house that has street parking but the sign is gone / stolen. Just a pole there with no regulations. Treat it like 24/7 free parking?

You will probably still get a ticket but with no sign it will be easy to dispute if you are willing

I would say just park there. Worst thing that can happen you get a ticket but you take a picture and bring it in for dispute. Instant win

If a parking meter is broken, you are not supposed to park at it. And if you do, and you dispute the ticket you WILL lose.

I'd say this is similar in that you shouldn't park there. Otherwise I could see an epidemic where people tear down signs and just park where ever they like.

^^^ they do. It's very common for people to spray paint the sign if they get a ticket, and then can dispute saying they couldn't read the rules, city's fault for not proper upkeep

I would just call up the city and ask them personally.. sure you can dispute.. but that also means you need to waste more time on something that can be avoided..

If in Burnaby there is a bylaw that you can only park for a certain amount of hours(2or4) in front of a residential house. The property owners also have the right to send a complaint into the city to have parking enforcement ticket these vehicles. When a co-worker complained, the city just mentioned its up to the person parking, to make sure they follow all bylaws for that city. So city sign or not, if you get a ticket, it will be hard to fight depending on what the violation was.

In our case, employees have to pay for their own parking as we have a monitored paid lot. Some people choose to park a couple blocks down the road to avoid this, but they have been getting tickets for parking to long in a residential neighborhood. I cant recall what the exact violation is.

What kind of sign was supposed to be there? If it was a no stopping or no parking sign because of access, fire hydrant, impeding traffic, youre gonna get towed anyways.

There's something in Vancouver too about this. like you can't park for more than 3 4 hours in front of a residential house or they can ticket you. I got a ticket before and asked about this. there was no signs anywhere either.

I always carry replica street signs with me. I remove the old sign and in place put the replica. Then once I'm done with my period of parking I take my step ladder out of the trunk along with cordless drill and replace it back to what it was originally.
