Took my car to service at a dealership, Sales manager called me to buy my car?

Just wondering, is this even allowed? Took my car to service for repair and sales manager in different department called me up and offered me cash to buy my car because his used car inventory is low.

Is this even legal practice from dealerships? (this is a MAJOR one)

It's legal. More of a tactic to get you into a new car.

What's the concern? You have a choice to sell your used car at a decent price and get a new one or tell him to screw off. Nothing to lose.

I get this phone call from the dealer once in a while. They are just working there client list to sell more car. Is fair and you can always just tell them you are not interested and hang up.

Yeah that's a perfectly common tactic to both get a good car on the lot they can sell for a profit, AND get you in to a new car. I've been contacted from my dealer about my focus ST. Sadly I'd have no interest in trading in for any other Ford lol

Why wouldn't it be legal, all you have to say is no thanks it's not like he's holding the car hostage.

Phone calls, snail mail, and most recently text message to sell. I showed some interest during the first phone call, but I got the feeling they were still going to give me a crap price for my Fit so now I ignore them.

Infiniti constantly emails me about this. All the different dealers I have gone to for service, and the one where we bought the car.

One day I am going to try and take them up on the offer, and video tape their reaction when they actually see the car... . Something tells me after they see the car, their interest in putting it on their lot is really gonna die off.

Bro sounds like you're salty for something as meaningless as an offer. Life's too short to worry about trivial matters like these. In fact, you should take it as a compliment someone was willing to offer to buy your vehicle. Don't know why you're complaining just say nah if you don't want to sell. Salesman just doing his job can't fault him.

I get these type of calls and mails from time to time. It's just a sales tactic to get you to trade-in and buy a new car. Some offers start with "we can lower your monthly payment."
I usually tell the sales guy(s) no thanks. If he really pushing, I just tell him, can you lower my monthly payment beyond $0? My car is 100% paid for. The sales guy goes quite pretty quickly.

Semi related note. My friend posted his tercel for sale on craigslist for $700, a dealership called him and offered him $3000 for the tercel but he would have to buy or lease a vehicle from that dealership

The Honda dealership used to call me once in a while with this tactic... never had them do it to me while my car was in for service though, that is pretty aggressive

I get emails from Lexus all the time wanting to buy my car because of the service records, mileage, blah blah offering me top dollar. When i respond back they lowball me and try and sell me a new car all the time.

Not worth my time in my opinion.

Hi Mr. Phreak.
