Anyone bought office furniture?

Anyone ever have experience buying furniture for a new office space? Desks, chairs, etc. We are a startup company so yes IKEA is always an option, but if anyone has recommendations for companies, websites and/or salespeople, I'm open to them. It's an office for about 8 - 10 people.

I spent a lot of time looking looking for a desk for my office.

Also ended up with source. IMO by far the best value/quality for the price. Everything else is either super shitty for reasonable prices, or insanely expensive

Craigslist, if nothing then IKEA. No need fancy things for small startup.

Other companies move all the time too and look to get rid of things so craigslist is great.

Used Office Furniture Vancouver, B.C., Canada

Got some of our desks/chairs at work from here. Hit and miss as stuff comes in and goes out all the time.

Finding used furniture that isn't junk is harder than you thought. Also, finding stuff that matches, in the quantity that you want, makes the used market even tougher. Plus the hassle of dealing with craigslist, picking stuff up, none of us have time for that.

As a startup, we're not going high end, but our dev team definitely deserves some good chairs and it's important to have stuff that has the 'look' that we are after when clients come by the office.

These are the chairs that my company uses: Office Chairs - Herman Miller

a little pricey but very comfortable! Best part is, they're in town and you're able to try them before you order them.

We have the Aeron office chairs. Aeron - Office Chair - Herman Miller

Do yourself a favour by saving some money: buy used or clearance from Source Office Furniture.

Source sells new stuff, but they have a large section (about 30% of their entire warehouse space) is dedicated to used furniture.

It's almost like 50% to 80% off the new price and they are actually very good condition furniture.

And, if you buy enough, you can see if you can haggle with the manager.

sounds like you could keep it simple with ikea and decorate to suite your taste, and then get decent office chairs and ergo keyboards to keep the team comfortable. we recently got a bunch of nice comfy chairs from costco for our office.

Costco chairs are by far the best bang for the buck, however, they aren't really ergo and I'm not sure how people will react to sitting in them for 8+ hours a day. I've had the same Costco chair for 4-5 years and love it.

The thing with source furniture is that to get desks for 8-10 people, you're probably going to only be paying 25-30% more than IKEA, yet you're going to get wayyyy better quality (my desk was in the discounted section and I paid $180 for it, the matching drawer however was another $200, the drawer is all locking with ball bearing rollers though)

I'm usually super OCD about stuff like this so I'd 100% pay the extra for the quality difference.

Things like auctions etc you may not be able to get all matching desks or the same styles, so kinda looks Mickey Mouse IMO

all the office furniture you'll need

but yeah, sounds like Ikea would be a decent option
Not sure if you've got time to scope out the auctions but i know a couple of people who scored some decent office furnitures there in the past.

lastly, keep an eye out on CL...occasionally there are some offices looking to clear out and have decent items for a fraction of the retail price

I'd check CL as well.. I've seen whole offices worth of furniture for free and/or super cheap over the years.. if a company grows successfully quickly they tend to upgrade furniture in a hurry to show employees/clients how well they're doing.

For a startup, lease the furniture.. dont buy.. especially the market is going to get rough the next year. You want to conserve as much cash as you can. Brooks Corning even Ikea office offers financing.

If you really want to stick with buying, talk to interior designers who specialise in office designs, they get furniture at huge mark downs especially "samples"..50% - 75% off is not unheard off.

Expensive chairs like Herman Miller will only warranty your chair if you are the original owner.. and they do break.. I had them replace my pan and one of the arm rest because the aluminum casting just snapped.

Remember buying things off CL is a pain in the ass if you need to write it off.

It depends on which round of funding you are in. Personally I won't spend cash on furniture unless the company is beyond third round.

If you just want something pretty that will last long enough for you to grow and afford something nicer later on just go with ikea. I prefer steelcase chairs but that has more to me working at one of their dealers in the past.

Impact Office Furniture down on Powell is super legit. We would rent from them all the time for any kind of office setup for a film production. They carry basic all the way to super high end stuff.

Our office just purchased new chairs and desks from Brooks Corning.

Would your company consider standing desks? Its a new thing offices have been introducing and its actually quite nice to stand while working. Beat the shitty posture most people have while sitting at a desk.

Most of our employees have these desks and rarely do they sit anymore, if they do. they use yoga balls..

Just something different you could consider.. Our office is a very active/healthy work environment so it does work for us.
