Murder charge laid in fatal stabbing at Abbotsford high school - British Columbia - CBC News

GG guy was 21. He's gonna rot in prison a long time...

Traum 11-02-2016 02:36 PM

Given how little faith I have in our revolving door court system, I honestly think the guy will be out in the community again waaaaaay sooner than he deserves. FailFish

how so? I say 20 years-25

little faith in what way?

Traum 11-02-2016 03:11 PM

Far too often, I see judges handing out sentences that are too lenient (IMO) for the crime that has been committed. And then afterwards, paroles are often granted too early.

An example I can readily think of is Kelly Ellard in the Reena Virk murder. Ellard was given an automatic life sentence with no parole eligibility for 7 years. Ellard has obviously been denied of parole right now, but had she been on good behaviour in prison, 7 years or a bit more might be all she needed to serve. And then I ask myself -- are you fxxking kidding me? Only 7 years for brutally murdering someone?

6o4__boi 11-02-2016 03:18 PM

Agreed, the justice system more often than not disregards the damage to society and tends to focus on the impact to the offender. Wouldn't be surprised if he gets charged with manslaughter when all is said and done
or even found not criminally responsible

fucked up...caught red-handed like that, this scum should be strung up and hung til he rots.

The guy who beheaded and cannibalized someone on a greyhound was given supervised release 6 years after sentencing. Nutter Butters or not someone like this should never see the light of day. I have no faith that this guy will get anything more then a slap on the wrist.

Hondaracer 11-02-2016 06:11 PM

You'd think you could get a first degree charge no?

Bouncing Bettys 11-02-2016 06:25 PM

CBC radio was saying he is from Alberta and has been in the Vancouver area since March with no fixed residence. I've read comments that he doesn't appear to be wearing shoes in the attack video. It seems more and more likely he will get the greyhound bus beheader treatment than serve prison time.

MG1 11-02-2016 06:46 PM

oops wrong thread.

SkinnyPupp 11-02-2016 07:15 PM

A reminder to everyone not to post the video here in the non NSFW section. We have a section for that kind of stuff, go post it there.

I think first degree requires proof of planning and a specific target. These girls were randoms. Doesn't make it any less tragic, but I think that's how the law works. Please correct me if i'm wrong.

The two girls were in the wrong place at the wrong time. I know that school well. A recently renovated school that has a community library that is open to everybody. It is not a closed campus. Across the driveway and field is a middle school and across from that an Elementary school. The school is located close to what I would call, the Downtown Eastside of Abbotsford. It is also two to three blocks from the Five Corners where the racist incident took place.

You can easily enter the school from just about anywhere. The atmosphere at Abbotsford Senior school is a good one. Like most modern schools, it promotes a community feel. It's not going to be the same anymore.

Day after Halloween, too.

twitchyzero 11-02-2016 09:53 PM

even more tragic it's random
when i first heard 2 got injured in knife attack I assumed it was targeted
at least he didn't go in gun-blazing

Seriously.....Just don't post it anywhere.
I know the kids Mom isn't browsing RS or anything, but does anyone here want to be part of the culture thats going to perpetuate a family being unable to escape a video of the brutal, unprovoked murder of their daughter?
Jesus fucking christ.
The internet is turning sociopathy into the norm.

I guess Abbotsford's harsh treatment of the homeless / mentally ill has come back to bite them.

westopher 11-03-2016 02:34 PM

More like canadas missing treatment of the mentally ill.

godwin 11-03-2016 03:05 PM

We don't know when he arrived and the reports so far have said he has been in the Vancouver area since March. The earliest I have seen anyone in Abbotsford claiming to have saw him was on Sunday at the Abbotsford Hospital. I don't like to defend the chicken-manure-spraying asshole attitude Abbotsford City Council has had in the past, but even the most progressive policies would have had little effect in such a short time frame.

I would disagree with that. This was both planned and deliberate. The attacker came with a knife and whether or not he knew the victims, at the time he approached them his goal was to kill them, knowingly.

Digitalis 11-03-2016 03:51 PM

How much longer are we going to put up with this?
BAN all KNIVES!

All for this! I'll just cut my steak with a shotgun.

They're only going for 2nd degree probably because it would be hard for Crown to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that the murder was the goal.
