Need a new phone asap - Halp

Hey guys,

I never thought I'd be in here asking for advice on a new phone but I'm reeeaally out of the loop these days on what's good. Been using an LG G4 for the past 15 months or so when it suddenly shit the bed on me today.

This is what I need in a phone:

-A big beautiful screen
-Good camera
-Clean UI with no ugly af graphics
-Double tape to lock/wake
-Removable battery
-Micro SD slot
-Reliable

I was eyeing the LG G5 but after doing some reading it seems like the G5 has the tendency to shit itself as well, unless those are isolated incidents?

Has Samsung done away with the removable batteries now?

Any input is appreciated. I absolutely need to have a phone that is not my work phone.

Thanks in advance

Did you get this sorted out through LG warranty? I purchased my phone on CL brand new over a year ago..

It's hard to fit those criterias, removable battery is hard to find these days.

I had the motherboard issue on my G4 earlier this year too. Sent it in to LG (through Fido since I got the phone through them) and they replaced the board and it's been fine since *knock on wood*

LG V20 would be the only current phone that satisfies all your requirements. Removable batteries are a thing of the past now for the most part.

I've heard a lot of bad things about the G4 as far as bootloops and spontaneous deaths. Not sure if I trust their reliability long-term nowadays.

i went through rogers to go through warranty, reading online people had them replaced even if they were out of warranty

(if you need to save your data, i put my whole phone in the freezer for few hours and that would give me 5-10 minutes to save whatever i would have)

There isn't much phones out there with removal battery. Most phone have quick charging now so don't really need to swap battery. Or you can always carry a battery bank.

I like the Samsung S7 a lot. Is small enough to fit in my pockets and battery life is awesome. Too bad I upgrade it to S7 edge which is still a nice phone just that when typing sometimes is easy for typo since the screen is curve so part of the keyboard is curve lol.

LG V20. Pretty much one of the few current phones that still have removable batteries.

Wow, this thread got a lot more attention than I thought it would

Thanks for all the responses. The V20 would be awesome but my days of spending that much on a phone are done. Right now it's looking like the G5 is the strongest contender since it checks all the boxes, except for maybe reliability..

The $599 OnePlus 3T will launch in Canada on November 22nd

Wow.. impressive specs.. now it has 16mp front 16mp rear camera.. hahaha dayum

OnePlus has just officially announced its latest smartphone, the OnePlus 3T.

Essentially an upgraded version of the OnePlus 3, the 3T features the same exterior as the outgoing OnePlus 3. Minus a new ‘Gunmetal’ gray paint job and a more scratch-resistant glass coating on the back-facing camera, the two phones look identical from the exterior; they share the same physical dimensions and weight.

Where the 3T differentiates itself from its predecessor is with a faster Snapdragon 821 processor, higher capacity 3,400mAh battery and better 16-megapixel front-facing camera. For the sake of comparison, the OnePlus 3 featured a Snapdragon 820 processor, 3,000mAh battery and 8-megapixel front-facing camera. I should also note the OnePlus 3T’s Snapdragon 821 is clocked at 2.35GHz, making it faster than the 821 found in the Pixel and Pixel XL. Additionally, OnePlus has added a 128GB ROM option to the proceedings. The phone will ship with Android 6.0, though OnePlus it will update both the OnePlus 3 and 3T to Nougat before the end of the year.

Otherwise, from a hardware perspective, the 3T and OnePlus 3 are identical. Both feature 6GB of RAM and a 1080p Optic AMOLED display.

Set to go on sale in Canada on November 22nd, the phone starts at $599 CAD for the 64GB version, making it more expensive than the outgoing $519 OnePlus 3. The 128GB version is $639 CAD.

V20 from Wind is pretty cheap rn... but it's also wind. Thing to watch out for on the V20 is that the camera glass shatters easily (LG V20?s camera glass breaks easily, some users complain | AndroidGuys)

Friend says his G5 has issues with the camera glass breaking/scratching easily, screen burning, headphone port crackling.

For now I'm just using my work phone which happens to be an iphone 6.

I can't stand it, but I talked with LG and they will fix my phone for free as they are very aware of the issue. I only pay for shipping there so in total I spend $16 instead of $400+

After reading what you guys say about the G5 and other experiences over the interwebz I'm going to stay clear of the G5
