Good indy BMW shop?

any recommendations on shops to service bmw. Have some issues with my e92 and needed another opinion. Need a shop that can analyze my fault codes in detail . I already did a search, but only found old threads from 2012

any recent experiences? Some shops that I was considering was German Auto Sports in surrey, CG Motorsports in richmond.

Let me know what you guys think.

Nixon in Burnaby

Traum 11-14-2016 11:19 PM

You got this already:

Vancouver BMW Service and Repairs - CG Motorsports

Shift Autosports would have been a good place as well. Too bad they've closed down...

acurael 11-14-2016 11:28 PM

thanks so far

German Auto Sports is closer to me. Anyone have experience with them?

+2 for nixon, but it was a long time ago for me. saved me from buying a bad e46 m3...

Personally I wasn't a fan of Nixon. Took my car in to diagnose the convertible top not working and they told me the module was bad. I got a replacement module installed it and same issue. I paid I think like $130 or something ridiculous and they were wrong. Not only that but they're always booked.
I took it to a convertible shop and they diagnosed it as a broken wire which is common and that fixed the issue.
I've heard good things about CG but never gone.
I've taken my cars to "Blitzrieg autowerks" they mostly specialize with porches but have no issues with bmw

+1 CG

TSS / Leah's automotive

Nixon is seriously no bueno.
CG is awesome, but be prepared to pay. You can be confident in their work though.
TSS is always awesome.

Nixon did a very meh PPI on my first E38.

CG was great. Chris had infinite patience with two of our E38s lol

Werner's Auto Klinik in Delta is also excellent. Owner has an E30 race car.

Edit: If you're in Surrey, definitely go to Werner.

Owner of Werner's also converted his own E30 325i convertible into a full blown m3. Assuming he still has it?

Ya see, this is the main reason why CG is different. Nobody else really cares for older BMW's the way they do.

For that reason alone, they'll always have my recommendation

I bring my car from time to time to W Motors (nearby the braid skytrain station)

No thrill shop, but does quality work at a very reasonable price.

I've got a service appointment at Nixon on Jan.23 for my 335d. I'll let you know what my experince was like. For what it's worth I called Speed Syndicate and they passed on what I wanted done and they claim to specialize in Performance Tuning; they referred me to CG Motorsports they too didn't perform what I needed and they referred me to Nixon. Spoke to Mike at Nixon and he was more than happy to help me out.

Strange -- exactly what kind of performance turning / service work are you looking to do that even CG Motorsports is turning you away?

TopsyCrett 01-09-2017 10:21 PM

^ yeah, must've been because they are super busy? I know they are swamped atm.

E_Fahlman 01-10-2017 08:13 AM

I'm looking to have the EGR, EGR Cooler & Diesel Particulate Filter Removed from my 2009 335d. EGR Delete Kit Installed and new DownPipe installed; Then I'll need tuning of the DME. I can only speculate the reason they're turning me away is because I have the Diesel version of the 335 and not a lot of shops are familiar with them.

Anyone have feedback on ML Autoz in Coquitlam? They're the closest to me and I intend to make them my go-to shop for maintenance and service. Screw going to the dealer for the ridiculous prices they charge.

bcuzracecarz 01-10-2017 09:49 AM

Never been there, check online reviews or some bmw forums, usually pretty good for advice

bcrdukes 01-10-2017 11:12 AM

There are a lot of mixed reviews of Nixon coming from various forums and members here on RS, but time and time again, Nixon falls through on competent troublesooting, while others simply turn customers away for whatever reason it may be (no right or wrong here.)

Nixon isn't a perfect shop - no shop is. But at least they will do things properly to find a root cause. A lot of people shit on them for their own reasons, but Nixon has been good to me (except for their insane wait times.)

bcuzracecar - Too bad you edit your post. I wanted to follow up on it with the details you provided. :p

I decided to give them a shot actually last month, Very honest Korean guy. Went in to get Coolant, Transmission fluid + gasket + filter, Transfer-case and front/rear differential fluid changed in my 2001 ML320. His rate is $100 / hour.

bcuzracecarz 01-10-2017 12:16 PM

Lol I'll post again then, didn't wanna take away from OP's thread...

Big plus for Nixon from me, story time.

About a month ago I went out to my car, started it up and it was an absolute Christmas tree. No reason why, had no problems, just threw up 6 codes all at once. After some panicking I went to the bmw forums and hunted for what it could be, figured out it may be a bad wheel speed sensor as many of these codes get thrown with a malfunctioning one. Called up Nixon and took it down to them a couple days later. Dropped it off and I explained what it could be and they said they would call me when they figured it out.

2 hours later I get a phone call. They said they had hooked up the computer and all the errors were in the passenger rear of the car. They tried replacing the wheel speed sensor, mine was fine. They then replaced the tail light bulbs, mine were fine. Then the entire wire harness, mine was fine and all connections were good. Finally they decided to rip out all the insulation out of the rear passenger side of the car.

Found this, a fuckin mouse had chewed the 6 wires and began making a nest
http://i1294.photobucket.com/albums/...pslx7vnwwu.png

Brand new house and complex, I found the little bugger had chewed through my garage door liner and decided my car was the place to be. Luckily only the rear corner and not the motor, everything got fixed through insurance and is all good now.

Now, Nixon could have just replaced all the malfunction parts, told me my bill was astronomical and I would have been on my way, (like I assume a dealer would have), but they didn't. They were straight up and honest, replaced just the wires that were chewed, (entire new ones, not just that portion) and told me my car was in immaculate condition otherwise. They even searched the rest of the vehicle to make sure there was no evidence of rodent damage. Guys were friendly and could genuinely tell they cared. I will for sure be back to them if anything should arise

E_Fahlman 01-10-2017 03:31 PM

How'd you manage to get Insurance to cover that?

bcuzracecarz 01-10-2017 03:42 PM

Rodent damage is covered under house and car insurance, all I had to do was provide pictures and written proof from wherever I had the work done saying it was rodents

Special K 09-20-2019 06:25 AM

Bump. Any current reviews? I’m looking for somewhere I can take the E46 M3 for all my maintenaince. I see Nixon, CG, and Leah. Any others? Where would you go?
