(CNN)Alan Thicke, the beloved TV actor who epitomized the role of the sitcom dad, died Tuesday at age 69, his agent told CNN.
"Today the world lost an amazing talent," said Tracy Mapes with Imperium 7 Talent Agency. She did not provide details regarding the cause of death.
His ex-wife, singer and actress Gloria Loring, confirmed his death in a statement on Facebook.
"It is a shock. We were all just together for Thanksgiving. He was talented, funny and deeply devoted to his family. Rest In Peace, dear one."
He was a regular hockey player at Pickwick Ice rink Burbank. Lots of celebs play there, as it's a little hole in the wall rink where they usually are left alone. Problem is, that shitty little rink didn't have an AED. Not that it would have done any good though. Thicke was coherent and awake when they were bringing him out of the rink. He died shortly after, either on route to the hospital or just as he was arriving. That was very sad news to hear yesterday.
Wayne Gretzky used to babysit Robin Thicke, and there's an old story of when Bruce McNall made the call to Gretz to let him know the trade to LA was finalized.
Quote:
Bruce McNall: I remember calling when the deal was finally done. It was early in the morning and I had to get Wayne to the airport with me to fly on to Edmonton, and it was [his son] Robin who answered the phone. I said, “Robin, I need Wayne,” and he said, “What’s going on, what’s going on?” And I said, “The deal is done, we got him.”
Alan Thicke: Yeah, that’s all true. I was in Norway with my son Brennan, and Wayne and Janet were taking care of Robin. Robin answered and said, “I’m sorry, Wayne is asleep.” And McNall said, “Well, you better wake his ass up.”

I just heard that story last week when he was on the Rich Eisen show talking about the NHL and planning the celeb game at the all-star game this year. He's always a good interview. Hope the NHL does something to honor him during the celeb game.
