Celebrating Canada's 150th Birthday

Post any public celebratory events in this thread.

Also something you and your family or friends plan to do to celebrate this country's 150th birthday.

I'm thinking of doing a cross country road trip again this summer. Try to time it so I'm in Ottawa on July 1st. This time, I'll have a dashcam with me.

Special Translink Canada 150 compass cards available at Stadium Station.

Damn it, found out about them today. They started selling them on the 22nd. Limited to 20, 000. 14, 000+ were sold in 24 hours. I only found out about them this morning through a stamp dealer who has a weekly auction. Checked out what was up for auction and there it was. Nice looking card, too. Selling on eBay for 65 bucks!

WTF?

Oh, Canadian Tire is giving away a special edition Canada 150 CT money. It's 10 cent value, but looks very nice. I'm collecting anything with Canada 150 logo on it. Lighters, flags, coffee mugs, etc. I have stuff from Canada's Centennial. Yes, I was around for that one, too. god willing, I plan to be around for the bicentennial.

First of all, there was no Canadian Tire............... just Hudson's Bay Trading Company. They sold only the best in winter gear. I still have my first snowshoes I traded for at a local Hudson's Bay trading post. Pemican. I made the best this side of the St. Lawrence. That's what I traded.

Then there was the Gold Rush. Let me tell you, it was amazing times.............. Very few Asians to speak of until it was time to build the railroad. We were strong and proud. White people were very bossy, but weak-ass.

As for the start of the country, nobody cared about countries, borders, and shit like that. Way more important shit to think about........ like where are you going to get your next meal and staying alive - fucking bears, Injuns, etc. Oh, and crazy people. Surrey gun violence? Huh, there were shootings and beatings every minute - 24/7. I survived because, "The bad guys know us and they leave us alone."........ a la Beach Boys, "I Get Around," song.

Damn, Revscene let me down......... I don't take transit. I'm a driver, man. Cars>transit.

If someone had mentioned it earlier.............. oh well. Translink might have some reserved for Canada Day. Probably have to sing and dance for one or send embarrassing photos of self in Canadian garb to some lame, promotional contest.

And fuck you, eBayers, for jacking up the price. Buying up the cards by the hundreds and selling them for profit. I can understand paying double or even triple the original price for one......... /rant

Success! Got a Canada 150 compass card. Cost a grand total of 6 bucks. I drove to Waterfront Station and went up to the second floor where the Translink office is located. Cute gal there said only one card per person and I'm like, "That's all I need." By the time I got there, they only had 20 left.

On the way back, I stopped by Canadian Tire and got the special CT money. I told the lady at customer service I'll donate two bucks to the Jump Start Program if I got more. She gave me five total.

Very grizzly..........???

You would also have to ask some special RS members about that. You know bear also refers to gay hairy bikers, right?

I believe the Customer Service booth at Stadium Skytrain station still has a supply of the Canada 150 Compass Cards. AFAIK, most stations were out as of a few days ago.

Ahahaha.... that's the first thing that came to my mind when reading your post about special edition Compass card. I was like "Compass card? Do you even take public transportation???... Da faq is that thing gonna do for you?"

I'm collecting all things Canada 150.

I just ordered a limited edition spinning base with the Canada 150 logo on it, from http://foreverspin.com. Only 150 produced.

100th and 150th logos.

The full size official flag of the 100th that I have at home has a green background and looks very sharp. I'm okay with the 150th.
