FIDO $50 5GIG PLAN to compete with FREEDOM MOBILE

Fido offers $50 5GB BYOD plan to customers mentioning Freedom Mobile

Fido is responding to Freedom Mobile’s low plan prices — particularly the $45 CAD 5GB Everywhere Plan, which is temporarily reduced to $35 — with a $50 5GB plan for BYOD subscribers.

The deal first popped up on Red Flag Deals, with the original poster stating that it was offered to him when purchasing an additional line. Many subsequent commenters in Freedom’s wireless service areas reporting they managed to snag the deal after threatening to leave to Freedom Mobile.

The plan reportedly includes unlimited Canada-wide calling and unlimited international texting along with other standard features such as call display and voicemail.

Subscribers have reported some limitations to the plan, as well, including the fact that it does not stack with the 10 percent additional line discount for new BYOD activations. Additionally, those who haven’t been with the carrier long will likely have trouble securing the deal.

Several subscribers have reported that the new plan does not include Fido Roam, the carrier’s pay-per-day travel feature, which could also be a significant detractor for many. Still, the deal is extremely compelling next to the carrier’s current in-market offerings. A BYOD Data, Text and Talk Fido Pulse plan with 5GB of data and unlimited calling is currently $75.

Update February 14th- Tech journalist Peter Nowak reports the offer also works if customers mention Koodo.

well Freedom mobile promo runs for another week, so I'm guessing around then

wondering if I should switch to Freedom...basically same pricing after 10 months (I'm on Koodo for $48/5GB)

I'm on the koodo plan MB/SK right now too. I don't think its worth it to make the switch.
My friend told me reception w/ freedom isn't good at the moment esp. It's only decent within vancouver.

Another friend is had a bad experience with public mobile b/c they don't have a customer service line after losing signal for the whole weekend so hes thinking of making the change lol

oh what don't they use one of the big 3's network?

nevermind, staying with koodo then...I'm just OCD and would like seeing my bill exactly $50 or under

Switched 2 people today, no hassle. Operator said the offer would end on the 20th but you can have them set it up so it starts on your billing cycle (to avoid prorated charges)

I had the pulse with roam and spotify from last year but 3 gigs at $50. THe operator offered me 2 gigs bonus for 2 years. I took that instead of this plan. I've been with Fido for long time so maybe that's why

Most important question, how is the reception for freedom? How fast is the LTE? Can anyone test speed in a basement and post?

Stick with the Fido plan. I don't recommend Freedom.

already have fidos 3gb plan for $40, don't need my plan price to keep creeping up, although this is a good deal if you're already on an expensive plan.

I just updated my plan. I was paying $50 for 3gb and now still paying the same for 5. Don't know if I will ever use that much but I thought what the heck.

it's only $60 for new activations or if your buying a phone outright through an upgrade.

otherwise it's $85 with a subsidized upgrade.

For both Fido and Rogers
