Service to rent a dog to take hiking?

Hey RS,

I was wandering if anyone knows of a service where I can rent a dog, like a lab, German Shepard, or retriever to take hiking with me.

There are businesses that babysit and dog walk, but I think you can only do that kind of work after taking courses.

Thanks in advance.

You could volunteer at an animal shelter if you just want to walk dogs around.
There is a minimum commitment though.
It would help to get the shelter dogs out for some fresh air.

as someone who rents and don't have a time to care for a pet, this sounds awesome.

Any particular shelters?

I've tried looking into SPCA for a few years now, the dog companion role is always taken in the GVRD.

I've found this site, but I don't know if anyone has had experience with it.

https://www.parttimepooch.com

Edit: It looks like a site mainly for weekdays rentals. Makes sense since most days people are off to work.

Make friends with someone with a dog and then either join them for walks/hikes or maybe even just borrow the dog for a few hours here and there. Go on craigslist and look for a hiking partner who has a dog?

I would call around to the different shelters. I'm sure that they all have a need for people to walk the dogs.

Definitely call shelters. Probably not SPCA.

At my wife's shelter they have people coming in every day to walk their favourite dogs. You could even foster on a short term, either to lighten their load for a while, or in lieu of adoption, to see if the dog is a good fit for you

Out of curiosity, OP, what is your intent? Is this purely for pleasure of spending time with an animal or is this a business venture idea?

You can contact SAINTS in Mission if you would like to walk dogs. Also you could foster a dog from a local rescue if you don't want a long term commitment.

Pleasure. I've heard that de-stressing with dogs is effective. Plus, they're man's best friend!

Many other post secondary schools have a de-stress week with dog companions.
