Philips Hue Bulbs

Anyone using this? Worth it? Where to buy these for cheap?

snails 03-10-2017 08:53 PM

Bestbuy carries them. They are pretty cool but reviews on connectivity are mixed

ForbiddenX 03-10-2017 09:38 PM

Thinking of getting these for our condo but $200 for the 3 light bulbs and hub seem pretty steep :(

How often would the light bulbs need changing as well?

!Aznboi128 03-10-2017 10:10 PM

I have a set of hue bulbs in my home. So far with 10 white bulbs and two strips.

I personally really like them and I found them to be useful. When I come home the lights automatically turn on and with home kit I can use Siri to turn off my lights before going to bed.

They're not cheap that's why I only got the white ones. I didn't see a need to add colour but the strips was a recent add on and I find them cool but not super useful.

In terms of how long they last. They are led so supposedly a while but only time will tell.

I've had them for about a year and half so far with no major problems.

Looking for cheap deals, seems like there's barely any sales on these lol.

I have 3 of the hue ambiance bulbs. I use them for the wake up feature. The lights slowly turn on at the specified time to mimic sunrise. Really helps me wake up in the morning. Its also nice when I forget to turn off the lights, I can use my phone to turn them off. Really handy when you left the house already.

I Got my white ambiance kit that came with 2 white ambiance bulbs, hub, and switch on sale for $100. from what i know, they only go on sale once or twice a year.

It's too bad there's no wifi plug or something that works with the hue. I got an Ikea floor lamp that i'd like to turn on or off along with hue. :fuuuuu:

Armind 03-15-2017 12:32 PM

^ Anyone got a solution to this? Figuring out if there's one so I can buy it before this sale is over.

I also have had this system for a couple years now 4 Br30's and a couple strips. and a few different app.
It's getting better with more accessories available..

I have approx 40 Bulbs and 30 related accessories. I had non-stop communication issues with the bridge UNTIL i created a static IP. I have maybe one 1 of 40 bulbs that loses connection every couple of months now. All i do is turn the light switch off then on; issue resolved.

Best time to buy is Black Friday, Boxing Day or occasional BedBath&Beyond Promotion.
I spent over 2g on my setup. I won't see a return on investment for a while but convenience was my key focus. If you have any questions, just ask.

I know you can pick diff colors, but is there a setting for it to change multiple colors ? sorta like a spectrum or rainbow setting

!Aznboi128 03-20-2017 09:21 AM

^ so like each bulb a different colour?

You can do that within the app. Just have to manually control/adjust them.

Armind 03-20-2017 11:05 AM

Are there any wifi wall plugs that work with Philips Hue? Would like to use to turn off a certain light source that can't use Hue.

Not through Hue App 1.0, Hue App 2.0 or Apple HomeKit. There are some third party apps that allow that rainbow cycle spectrum, but I believe the app has to be running in the background to achieve this. At least for Apple iOS.

Seems like the $150 price is standard for the Gen 2. It's $150 at bestbuy as well: Philips Hue A19 Smart LED Light Bulb Starter Kit (456194) - Multi-colour : Smart Lights - Best Buy Canada Is the Gen 3 worth the extra $50?

Armind 07-11-2017 09:08 AM

Amazon Prime deal going on for these.

https://www.amazon.ca/Philips-464511...ds=philips+hue

So tempting, but it's more of a nice to have than a must have.

twitchyzero 07-11-2017 09:27 AM

there has to be fleebay versions for a fraction of the price?

that's still a lot of money for a few light bulbs

this looks decent
