I have a set of hue bulbs in my home. So far with 10 white bulbs and two strips.
I personally really like them and I found them to be useful. When I come home the lights automatically turn on and with home kit I can use Siri to turn off my lights before going to bed.
They're not cheap that's why I only got the white ones. I didn't see a need to add colour but the strips was a recent add on and I find them cool but not super useful.
In terms of how long they last. They are led so supposedly a while but only time will tell.
I've had them for about a year and half so far with no major problems.
I have 3 of the hue ambiance bulbs. I use them for the wake up feature. The lights slowly turn on at the specified time to mimic sunrise. Really helps me wake up in the morning. Its also nice when I forget to turn off the lights, I can use my phone to turn them off. Really handy when you left the house already.
I Got my white ambiance kit that came with 2 white ambiance bulbs, hub, and switch on sale for $100. from what i know, they only go on sale once or twice a year.
I also have had this system for a couple years now 4 Br30's and a couple strips. and a few different app.
It's getting better with more accessories available..
I have approx 40 Bulbs and 30 related accessories. I had non-stop communication issues with the bridge UNTIL i created a static IP. I have maybe one 1 of 40 bulbs that loses connection every couple of months now. All i do is turn the light switch off then on; issue resolved.
Best time to buy is Black Friday, Boxing Day or occasional BedBath&Beyond Promotion.
I spent over 2g on my setup. I won't see a return on investment for a while but convenience was my key focus. If you have any questions, just ask.
Are there any wifi wall plugs that work with Philips Hue? Would like to use to turn off a certain light source that can't use Hue.

Like one bulb changing mutiple colors kinda like a rainbow setting
Not through Hue App 1.0, Hue App 2.0 or Apple HomeKit. There are some third party apps that allow that rainbow cycle spectrum, but I believe the app has to be running in the background to achieve this. At least for Apple iOS.
